Description

from Molokini & Turtle Arches Snorkel Cruise
This 'double the fun' excursion includes snorkeling at Molokini Marine Preserve plus a second snorkel stop at Turtle Arches, a dazzling reef off Maui’s south coast known for its underwater lava arches and large resident population of green sea turtles. Pacific Whale Foundation’s certified marine naturalists give a free guided reef tour to point out sights you could easily miss on your own! We also include all of the snorkel gear, reef safe sunscreen, "learn to snorkel" class for beginners, and a Jr. naturalist program for kids. Each party receives a complimentary color guide, "Enjoying Maui's Unique Ocean Environment" and free dolphin or sea turtle poster. Rash guards are also available for rent (cash only).

Molokini is a world class snorkeling environment inside the protective ring of an ancient volcanic crater, where over 250 marine species thrive in crystal-clear Hawaii waters. The islet's arc shape, the fact that there is little or no soil to run off into the sea, and the relatively shallow, protected waters combine to offer an incredible Maui snorkel experience with excellent visibility. Located just 2.5 miles off the coast of Maui's south shore, Molokini's shallow inner cove provides a unique habitat for fish and coral species, some of which are found nowhere else in the world but Hawaii.

"Rough water, but worth it"

We booked this tour through the Norwegian Cruise Line. We were picked up at the ship by our crew and they seemed excited to see us. We were taken out the the crater on a large boat and given instructions while we were on the boat. They provided sunscreen that would not harm the coral reefs. We were given a continental breakfast and kept well hydrated. The water was a little rough at the crater, but there was plenty of crew to help those of us that needed it. We were given wet suit tops to help us stay boyant and helped with the water temperature. There were life jackets and noodles for anyone that wanted to use them. We saw beautiful fish and a shark or two. Crew was there to help us get back on the boat. After snorkeling at the crater, we then proceeded to snorkel with the turtles. The water seemed a little rougher at this point. The crew was very good about pointing out the various fish and the lava tubes and caves that we were seeing. You could stay in the water as long as you wanted or go back to the boat when you felt like you were through. On the trip back to the van the crew took it slow so we could find turtles in the water and enjoy the ride. Would do this trip again in a heartbeat!

It was a great experience, we didn’t get to go all the way to Lanai though. It was far too windy. But we saw a lot of fish, a couple turtles and the most exciting was the whales!! So awesome! The staff is also very knowledgeable and very nice. Food was yummy too. Boat was nice as well. I would definitely recommend taking this trip, but go in springtime when it’s less windy and rainy😄👍🏻

This started at 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. We arrived at slip 99 at 6:45 am. We were checked in boat side and boarded the catamaran. We sat at the bow and enjoyed our tea and coffee was served with a warm cinnamon bun. We began our way to Molokini for our first stop for snorkeling. Apparently the Captain was in a good mood, so he took us to the far side of the crescent. He showed us the island which was used for military ballistic target practice back in the 1960’s. There is an endangered species of bird, which inhabits Molokini. They stopped and tied down approximately 200 yards from the island to snorkel. You DON’T have to be a swimmer to do this activity, as they deploy several of the staff as lifeguards in the water. They also provided floatation devices, a life vest or the banana belt, or a bogey board. We made our way into the water and water was crystal clear. It was absolutely stunning in the water with the fish and coral. Our second was Turtle Town where we saw several sea turtles. On our journey back to shore, they served lunch. They served grilled teriyaki chicken breast, garlic rice, salad, and a roll. The food was delicious, the crew was phenomenal. They made safety their number one priority.
