"Discrimination against locals"

I first checked into this beautiful property in Oct 2019.The experience was so wonderful that my husband and I returned on 11/30/19 & this time brought our grandkids. My second experience was very different from the first. The rooms and facilities are wonderful and have no complaints. When I checked in, I stood in line by the Hilton Honors side however did not stand between the stanchions. The gal there was a hapa looking gal (a little on the chubbier- full bodied side) who was attending to another guests. I waited patiently on the side but during that time a Caucasian guest was also waiting and stood in between the stanchions. Apparently the stanchions is the correct place to wait however I had my grandkids, so it was easier for me to be on the side directly facing the agent at the desk & not stand between the stanchions. My granddaughters are 2 and 5 and do tend to wander so waiting on the side was practical for me.The gal did give me eye contact and after she was done looked over to the Caucasian guests and brought them to the line before me. She knew I was next however took them first. I actually said I was in line but stated I wasn’t standing between the stanchions. I feel like I have been discriminated against because of my color (brown skin) and that I am a local. It left a bad feeling, however I tried to brush it off during the trip as to not spoil it for the sake of my granddaughters. I’m in the industry myself and so when I travel I like to receive good service and when the services are bad, I do want to let upper management know in that company, so they will not get affected and continue their success in this business. I tried to ignore it and waited till my husband arrived as he was out front with Valet to get our bags checked. My intent of this review it that this is a wonderful property however the staff needs training or to be reminded of guests services and act as hosts. Later during our stay the same gal was at the Concierge and when I asked what time the boats arrived she was very quick and short/curt with me as if I was bothering her. Upon check out, I again had a negative experience, I had asked what was the final balance on my bill and the gal who checked me out was very rude and said “it’s on your bill, the final page”. No aloha and thank you for staying at your resort. I didn’t spend a lot of money to experience this kind of service, I was appalled with the service that the agents provided. These little gestures are important to each paying customer.Maybe it’s because I’m local and not the Caucasian guests who is often stereotyped as the big spenders.I’m a blue collar worker who has worked 35 years in this industry who could afford to treat their family to a weekend getaway. This is not the service I want nor the experience to brag about to others.I didn’t get the names of the 2 employees as I have said I had my granddaughters with me and they were a handful.I sent this review to the General Manager who did call me however it appears he doesnt believe my claim and said he would review the cameras to validate that this actually happened? He would share my experience to the staff and that was all, no goodwill gesture provided.

On the fence giving this hotel a 3 or 4. We stayed here for our honeymoon in 2010. We loved it and we were so excited to come back with our two kids in November 2019. We stayed in the Ocean Tower, we upgraded to a larger room so it would be easier for the kids to sleep and take naps. The larger room was fine, but outdated. The issue here is that it is SO FAR AWAY. The tram was down for construction so you had three options to get to the pool area - walk, boat, or shuttle. Neither the bus or the boat come regularly (though the hotel will tell you they do). So every single time, we walked. We walked with our 2 and 4 year olds ten minutes each way. It was exhausting to say the least. Service at the restaurants was slow and pricey (it is Hawaii after all), but the food was overall decent. Certain kids meals, like the hot dog and grilled cheese, are free with the purchase of an entree. Moving on to the pools. They were chilly. Neither of my kids lasted very long in the pools. My daughter was so excited for the slides but was too short. We were hoping the kids pools would be a bit warmer but unfortunately that wasn't the case. The lagoon was probably the best party. A tad bit warmer than the pools and loved that they could play in the shallow ocean water. Overall the stay was good. Nothing stellar. We transitioned to a condo after our nights at the Hilton and found that to be much more enjoyable.

Hilton Waikoloa has a variety of regular hotel rooms and condos, some with great golf course and ocean views combined. They have golf, dolphin training, great natural lagoon and incredible multi-pool recreation area with slides, waterfalls and more. Close to some local attractions and plenty of hiking paths throughout the property. Several fun restaurants, from pool side to formal dining.

"HUGE property . . . need a tram or boat to get to your room!"

This is a huge property. Ideal for families but way to busy and noisy for someone who wants a quite holiday. Our room was pretty tired, but we had an ocean view which was nice. Lots of restaurants on the property. Be prepared for steep resort fees and high parking fees ($30/day). Logistically, the property is pretty impressive, it's kind of like Disneyland, lots of activity. It's close to 2 shopping centers but our room had no kitchen so we ate out (off property).

The Waikoloa Hilton is one the choicest Hilton properties in the U.S. Fabulous when it was first built. But alas, it seems that Hilton has not wanted to spend the money necessary to keep it at its best. Concentrating on turning a section of the property in to beautiful time-share units the balance of its Ocean Tower remains shabby, waiting to be converted over the next few years.
