Description

from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
With so many choices, where do you begin? Right here. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is a 135-acre animal theme park located in Vallejo, California. The park includes a plethora of pulse-pounding roller coasters, to gentler options for tots.

At the heart of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is its diverse animal program, where guests, young and old, can enjoy strolling through the LAND area of the park to see beautiful cats, such as African lions, Bengal and Siberian tigers and cougars relaxing in their tranquil outdoor habitats.

In SEA, various marine mammals, such as bottlenose dolphins, Pacific walruses, California sea lions, Pacific harbor seals and our aquatic bird species, endangered African penguins, can be found. Walk through the serene Butterfly Habitat or gaze at the often misunderstood sharks in the Shark Experience

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom offers unique opportunities to meet animals truly up-close and personal. From your first step into the park, you might see exotic parrots and macaws; at the main plaza, or see dolphins swimming via an underwater viewing window at Dolphin Harbor.

For those that wish to engage with animals directly, there are ample opportunities to meet, see, touch and feed a variety of animal species. Each operating day, there are limited spaces available where you can feed a seal or sea lion at Seal Cove or feed a giraffe at the Giraffe Encounter (additional fee required).

Throughout the day, you won’t want to miss any of our entertaining and informational animal presentations. See marine mammal specialists take our two-ton walruses through a series of unbelievable behaviors, and the Odin’s Temple of the Tiger demonstration show is a one-of-a-kind experience that proves that cats really do like to swim.

For fans of our feathered friends, our animal care specialists show that macaws and cockatoos have distinct personalities at Discovery Theater and there’s no doubt that every animal, big or small, has a place in the ecosystem. Not to miss is the Aquaped Waterworks Sea Lion Show and the energetic Drench! dolphin show at Toyota Stadium. During special times like Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park, we re-theme these for the occasion!

"Quick and easy!"
August 2019
I arrived at Six Flags and discovered that admission prices were full price - not the deals I had seen online or even on their own website. I quickly did a search online and Tripster has a great price and I was able to buy same day tickets! I purchased, verified credit card charge, then hopped out of line and straight to the gate with my immediately received ticket scan code from Tripster. Worked perfectly! Will definitely use Tripster again!

My spouse and I decide to have a couple of days mid week for fun. We looked on line for tickent to Six Flags Magic Kingdom on Six Flags web site and discovered that their advertised discount price was ony available if you booked at least 24 hours in advance. :-( . I called Tripster and was able to get the discounted price for the same day. That was nearly a 30% discount making out day at the park even better. (We liked "The Joker" rollercoaster best)

"Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - Vallejo, CA"
July 2019
Purchased the basic flash pass to avoid waiting in long lines, and it worked out great! It wasn't that busy (which surprised me since it was that Saturday of the 4th of July weekend), but the flash pass probably saved us 2-3 hours of time. Saw a couple of shows and rode most of the rides. The dolphin show was good, but used to have a killer whale and no longer do.

Sure wish we took a photo of every ride and attraction we rushed to and found closed. Only the extra cost areas like arcade games were fully staffed. Truly unbelievable disappointing day.

Tip: Don't bother rushing to the back of the park to ride anything before the crowds unless it's a weekend or special event because none of the back opened til after noon except kiddie rides. Also after downloading app thinking we'd be better informed as to what was closed-- found everything had a status of closed all day, even things that finally opened.

"Fun at the Park"
July 2019
There are a number of good rides at 6 Flags, but is seemed like rides were broken down nearly as much as they were running. It's good that they're observing caution, but more preventative maintenance would be beneficial. We went to Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH a couple years ago. The major differences between these parks is the biggest reason I only gave 6 Flags 3 stars. If Cedar Point is a 5 then 6 Flags can't be higher than a 3 in comparison.

Tip: Be willing to spend the day becasue lines got much shorter late in the day.

"An All Encompassing Guide to Six Flags!"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! An ALL encompassing guide to your visit with Six Flags Discovery Kingdom! Table of Contents: - Season Pass vs Daily Tickets - Ride Reviews - Show Reviews - Fright Fest: Worth It? - Misc: Tips and Tricks (Save your Money!) ------------Season Pass or Nah?-------- If you plan on visiting Six Flags at least 2 times during a year, a season pass is well worth your money due to the benefits including: unlimited visits to the park ($73/visit), free parking ($30/car), and Bring a Friend Free days. Additionally, you can visit ANY Six Flags park in the world for free. Fortunately, I was able to scoop my Six Flags Season Pass during their Labor Day sale for $58+tax (70% off!). Benefits includes: upgrade to Gold Season Pass, free ride picture, free skip the line pass, admission to rest of 2019 and all of 2020. I recommend purchasing your season passes near Labor Day since that's when the discounts are largest and upgrades are available. Memberships are slightly more expensive and offer more discounts for food and merchandise. There are different tiers, with increasing levels of discounts. I wouldn't recommend these unless you love repping the Six Flags brand. ------------Ride Reviews--------------- I haven't been on all of the rides but will update when I do! MUST GO: 1. Joker (5/5) 2. Medusa (4/5) 3. Daredevil (this ride is disgusting but it's actually really fun doing it with your friends. Probably the only ride I was actually scared to do since you just hang upside down) (4/5) 4. Flash (5/5) 5. Wonder Woman (4/5) JUST OK- SKIP IF THE LINE IS 30+ MINUTES: 1. Boomerang (it's like a worse version of Flash) 2. Sky Screamer 3. The Ark 4. White Water Safari (you WILL get wet!) BAD- JUST SKIP: 1. Kong: holy, this ride was so rough. It literally made my friend's earring come off due to the constant head banging against the head rest. Short and painful; skip! ------------Show Reviews-------------- 1. Odin's Temple of the Tiger: I'm a bona fide crazy cat lady and am sad to see that these beautiful creatures are going extinct :( I appreciate how the trainers based the show around the tiger's natural movements rather than cheap, unethical show tricks. It's not as eye catching as other shows but very informative. 2. Toyota Stadium- DRENCH!: (3/5) If you've been to Sea World, the dolphin show here will disappoint. The trainers do not get in the water and the flow is a bit rough. Dolphins are cute though. Sit on the sides of the stadium to get extra wet! ------------FRIGHT FEST--------------- So without a season pass, Fright Fest is a scam lmao. In addition to paying for the admission ticket ($73), you must also pay another $30 to get a wristband into the Haunted Mazes. If you have a season pass, you still have to pay $30. Fright Fest starts are 6:30 PM till the park closes. Decor is lacking. Instead of the entire park being decorated, it's only in specific "Scare Zones" where there are live actors in small patches of walkway. Fright Fest also gets so unbelievably crowded that it's just not worth it. Come either before October or right after so crowds have lessened. CA Great America and Knottsberry farm does Fright Fest much better. If you do have a season pass, I got an offer from Six flags in September for BOGO free Haunted Maze wristbands, making them $15 each. I guess this would make it worth it if you're interested. -----------TIPS AND TRICKS------------ The worst part of Six Flags is the freaking lockers. What a flagrant cash grab smh. Basically, if you have a bag, you're forced to rent a locker for it. It's $1 for 2 hours per ride for $5 for the whole day. If an employee catches you with a bag in line, you can't ride unless you rent a locker and show a receipt. So to cheat the system... Tip 1: Travel light. Instead of a bag, wear pants or jackets with ZIPPED pockets. The "zipped" part is important because many people have left their phones in their jeans and have had it fall off during the ride. Don't let this be you. The cost of food is atrocious. Expect $16-25 per meal with bottled water costing $10 for 2. I was shocked that there were large posters advertising the "deal" of $5 water bottles like that's a steal or something. Tip 2: BRING WATER BOTTLES. There's no storage for bags on the rides but there are places to store your bottles. Tip 3: Bring food and leave it in the car. Six Flag lets you re-enter the park. I opt for Banh Mi, which is Vietnamese sandwich. Don't even try to sneak food in. They have x-rays for security and will force you to rent an outside locker for $12. Tip 4: Download the app! It keeps track of your season passes and offers live waiting times. It was super helpful to see which rides I should hit up. I think I got every thing. Hopefully this helps y'all out!

"Loved the thrills!!"

We planned a visit to Six Flags at the request of my girlfriend’s sister who was visiting from overseas. The three of us made the day trip from San Francisco on a leisurely Sunday with beautiful weather. We were at first a little apprehensive given none us had visited a theme park in about a decade. This apprehensiveness quickly subsided as we immersed ourselves in ALL THE THRILLS the park has to offer. My girlfriend’s Sister got the photo pass and this was enough for us all to be captured on the two rides with photos (the Joker, and Medusa). These were also our favourite two rides. We arrived early, pretty much at opening around 11am. We tried out every ride.. plenty of time to cover the park. Lines for rides were okay, there was only one ride where we had to wait quite a long time.. otherwise all pretty manageable. We opted not to get the flash pass.. and found we probably didn’t need it apart from possibly that one ride with the longer line. We brought our own food, and stashed it in the ride lockers for a snack between rides. We didn’t try out any of the dining options, but they have them at the park. Bring a water bottle, and sunscreen, it’s a lot of time spent outside in the sun. Highly recommend a visit. Enjoy!!

"Fantastic trip at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom!"

I almost cancelled my trip to Six Flags, because of the bad reviews on Trip Advisor. I have to say that myself, my 2 children, my sister, and her children had a fantastic time! We did not notice many rides out of service, the lines were manageable, the dolphin show, and butterfly exhibit were great, and of course the Funnel cake was delicious :). I'd encouage everyone to try the park out themselves and if you enjoy yourself come back and write a review. I feel bad that it's gotten a bad rap. It was our first time there but we will definitely be back!

This place puts in a new attraction every year. This year it is the Batman coaster. Next year is the Sidewinder Safari Coaster. They also ask residents and annual pass holders their opinion on everything from food to rides to how the employees dress and act. Annual passes are a real bargain, the place is always clean and the only negatives are: traffic getting into the park (which isn’t an issue if you go early and hang out for like breakfast in town) and the lines for food (which I can tell you they are concerned with and finding ways to fix that). Overall, and compared to Great America, this place is a winner.
