Description

from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
With so many choices, where do you begin? Right here. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is a 135-acre animal theme park located in Vallejo, California. The park includes a plethora of pulse-pounding roller coasters, to gentler options for tots.

At the heart of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is its diverse animal program, where guests, young and old, can enjoy strolling through the LAND area of the park to see beautiful cats, such as African lions, Bengal and Siberian tigers and cougars relaxing in their tranquil outdoor habitats.

In SEA, various marine mammals, such as bottlenose dolphins, Pacific walruses, California sea lions, Pacific harbor seals and our aquatic bird species, endangered African penguins, can be found. Walk through the serene Butterfly Habitat or gaze at the often misunderstood sharks in the Shark Experience

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom offers unique opportunities to meet animals truly up-close and personal. From your first step into the park, you might see exotic parrots and macaws; at the main plaza, or see dolphins swimming via an underwater viewing window at Dolphin Harbor.

For those that wish to engage with animals directly, there are ample opportunities to meet, see, touch and feed a variety of animal species. Each operating day, there are limited spaces available where you can feed a seal or sea lion at Seal Cove or feed a giraffe at the Giraffe Encounter (additional fee required).

Throughout the day, you won’t want to miss any of our entertaining and informational animal presentations. See marine mammal specialists take our two-ton walruses through a series of unbelievable behaviors, and the Odin’s Temple of the Tiger demonstration show is a one-of-a-kind experience that proves that cats really do like to swim.

For fans of our feathered friends, our animal care specialists show that macaws and cockatoos have distinct personalities at Discovery Theater and there’s no doubt that every animal, big or small, has a place in the ecosystem. Not to miss is the Aquaped Waterworks Sea Lion Show and the energetic Drench! dolphin show at Toyota Stadium. During special times like Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park, we re-theme these for the occasion!

"Most of the rides closed most of the time"
May 2019 NEW
I was visiting from Germany with my two boys and we were very excited about spending a day in the park. Unfortunately, this was quite disappointing. Most of the rides were closed a big part of the day. Obviously there was not enough staff available to run even half of them at the same time. But still, they would let you go in line, wait for 20 minutes and then tell you that there is a ‚delay in operation‘ and you can either wait for don’t know how long or come back at a later point in time. They could have at least closed the lines at some point in time and then switch to operating the next ride... Some rides like the White Water raft only opened in the late afternoon. When it was really warm about noon, no way. But at 5 p.m. it was operating as it cooled down. There were two roller coasters that we only saw running when we left the park.
We did pick a day we thought there were not so many people there, but we thought about visitors and not about staff... All in all this was a very disappointing experience for a very high price. I am very happy I did not buy full priced tickets...
Still leave two starts because the boys liked the animal shows, especially the dolphins. If it wasn’t for the shows, the day would have been a very pricy mess...

"Old and Tired"
March 2019
This used to be MarineWorld. Then it was purchased by Six Flags. Now it isn’t sure if it’s an animal park or a roller coaster park...so it’s doesn’t do a particularly good job at either. Half the rides weren’t running the day we visited.

"Winter visit"
January 2019
Many thrill rides were closed. Most animal exhibits were empty. Medusa broke down twice. Most snack stands were closed. Long lines at the few that were open. Kinda depressing.

Tip: Don't do the $5 locker rental at individual rides. It's only good for twp hours, but they don't tell you this until after you pay for it. Ripoff...

"Very Good Experience!"
November 2018
We purchased the tickets a few days before going to the park and the day at the park for a late arrival. The air quality was down and the park closed but we were able to get a complimentary pass for another day. So Reserve San Francisco worked for us very smoothly and we enjoyed a few hours of the park without any lines.

Tip: Its good to plan alittle more than we do. There is a lot to see at the park and a lot of walking so wear comfy shoes and arrive early.

It let us enjoy the park without being miserable in the long lines and heat! Food wasnt bad and the rides and aquariums were amazing. Kid friendly but also adult friendly. We want to return soon!

"Reservesanfrancisco was tops!"
September 2018
We found the price on reservesanfrancisco to be the cheapest. One minor hiccup was that I had to call to make sure tickets were verified since I didn't get the email right away. But upon arrival at 6 Flags, I just showed my phone/ bar code at the GATE (not will call), and we were buzzed right through!

6 flags had VERY age appropriate things for our 5 and 2 year old. They loved it!

Worst part is parking, which is about half a mile away. No joke. You can take a very crowded shuttle? Or walk with a crowd down a narrow path.

"NO FOOD????????"
September 2018
Me and my friends were going to six flags and just as we were walking in they told us that we needed to through out a big thing of kettle corn. We asked if they could hold on to it but they said no. Then they said that we could put in the locker but the locker was 12 dollars. You could see a big barrel of food in the back that customers tyres to bring in. It waisted so much time that we could have spent having fun. While we were waiting they threw out baby food and medications. WORST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!!

It is hit or miss at this park in regards to the crowd sizes. Food options are decent and overall the staff is friendly. Be sure to check the hours of the park online before going because they frequently change.

The park is dirty and needs some major repairs to get it acceptable. Which I do not understand because it just opened for the season. The park is suppose to open at 10:30 am but they were testing the rides until 10:50 am. And when we asked questions of the staff almost half of them did not know the answers. The big water ride was not even ready for the season as there was no water in the ride. Throughout the day some of their big rides did not open until the afternoon and kept breaking down like Superman, The Joker, and Harley Quinn. This whole park is run down and poorly managed. Stay away and do not waste your money and time. And they charge $30 for parking. WORST AMUSEMENT PARK EVER.

They advertised Spring Break Week, more than half the rides were closed. The ones open either had huge lines or once in line we were told they had mechanical difficulty. Food was so overpriced, more than Disneyland and just awful! Not a single person we asked (4) seemed to know why the rides were closed and didn't really seem to care. We were going to complain to Guest Services but the line was so long. I can guess why. The positive reviews on here have to be from employees and family. This place is a joke! When I emailed they offered a free pas stating they are a "No Refund Park" We were there 2 1/2 hours, rode one ride and spent almost $100 on nasty food. Lastly, interesting that ALL Gift Shops were open.

"What a joke (pun intended)!"

Reviewed April 28, 2019 NEW
In anticipation, I downloaded the Six Flags app, to check that our kids were tall enough for most of the rides. They were, just not the very fastest (such as The Joker). Six Flags was avidly promoting special Spring Break entertainment. It was Easter break for our kids, and I checked that students in that area also had school break at that time. Supposedly many of them did, so we felt reassured that the park would be open on the day we wanted. (I spent alot of time calling numerous telephone numbers on their website, but could never reach a live person.) On the way in, we noticed that many rides were not operating. The entrance was a chaotic mess of people haplessly milling around trying to figure out which line to be in. We wanted general admission tickets, but we could see no such sign -- only something like "group" or "member". We stood in what we hoped would turn out to be the appropriate line. Finally approaching a table which appeared to be selling tickets, we attempted to first ask which rides weren't available. No one knew as they were supposedly not given that information. Nevertheless, as we had come all that way and already paid $30 to park, we didn't want to disappoint the kids. As advertised, we used our specially-bought "classic" coke cans to get a $15 discount on the General Admission price of $70.99 (subsequently finding out that ANY COKE SUBSIDIARY DRINK PRODUCT is accepted). We entered and started trying to figure out how to proceed. We wanted to make a plan as to which rides to try first. EXCEPT THAT THE MAJORITY OF RIDES WERE SHUT DOWN! We were running around bewildered, dashing here and there, not understanding what was going on. Of course ALL the shops, concession stands, and eateries were open, but none of the staff working were able to tell us. As we were looking for someone who might actually have some information, a guy nicely dressed in a suit-and-tie came up to us, asking if we wanted to purchase tickets to Disneyland as part of some promotional deal that Six Flags was running. He helpfully told us that there was a board listing which rides were running, and gave us instructions to find it. We did, and took a pic (see attached photo) of it with our smartphones so we could refer to it as we attempted to figure out where to go. But it turned out that list was unreliable and inaccurate! Rides listed as open, were not -- and rides not listed on it, were!! And of those, they were mainly for the tallest, leaving only a few allowable to our kids (and hardly any for the smallest children, as I heard a complaining father trying to explain to his group of youngsters). And there were many with a sign that they'd be open at a specified time, like noon, but even by 4pm they were still closed. We were subsequently informed that there were not enough workers -- mainly high school students! -- to staff the rides as they were all in school now -- and therefore that it was better to come on a weekend, and best in the summer. (Except the temperature is often in the 90s and there is little shade, especially standing in those long lines.) Now we understand why we had not heard any of our friends mentioning this Six Flags, and why everyone took trips to SoCal for Disneyland!
