from The Who's TOMMY
Immerse yourself in the captivating world of The Who's Tommy on Broadway, an exhilarating musical performing live at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City! Embark on an electrifying journey through the iconic 1969 concept album by the legendary British rock band, The Who. With music, lyrics and book by Pete Townshend, the lead guitarist and composer for The Who, this theatrical masterpiece weaves together rock music, emotional depth, and unforgettable characters.
The story follows Tommy, portrayed brilliantly by Ali Louis Bourzgui and Cecilia Ann Popp (Tommy at 4 years old), a deaf, dumb and blind kid who discovers an extraordinary talent: he becomes a pinball wizard. His journey unfolds against the backdrop of World War II, where trauma and resilience intersect when Captain Jacobs (Adam Jacobs) returns. Along the way, he encounters the enigmatic Acid Queen (Christina Sajous). The show includes Alison Luff who portrays Tommy’s mother, torn between love and despair, and the complex character Uncle Ernie (John Ambrosino).
Lorin Latarro’s choreography infuses the show with dynamic movement, capturing the raw energy of rock ‘n’ roll. Scenic designer David Korins and lighting designer Amanda Zieve create a visually stunning experience, transporting audiences into Tommy’s world. From tension caused by Cousin Kevin (Bobby Conte Thornton) to Tommy’s amazing journey, every moment resonates. Director Des McAnuff masterfully guides the production, ensuring that the soul-stirring songs—like the anthemic Pinball Wizard—leave an indelible mark.
