History of Fox Theatre
In 1928, the Fox building began as a home for the Atlanta Shriners, which credits the building’s architectural prominence. But soon, the upkeep of the ornate design with its sweeping archways and towering dome ceilings became too much for the Shriners. Hence, the organization sold the auditorium to William Fox, a movie mogul, who turned the structure into a ‘movie palace,’ adding a 3,622 pipe Moller organ. The Fox opened in 1929 to a sold-out crowd with a showing of Disney’s animated classic, Steamboat Willie.

The Great Depression
During the 1930s, the Great Depression forced Fox to sell the building to a private company. For the next three decades, the theatre thrived as a movie theatre and entertainment hall, hosting live performances from the Metropolitan Opera company to local swing bands.
Summer Film Festival
With a seating capacity of 4,665 seats, the theatre includes an incredibly beautiful domed blue sky. During the summer months, guests are invited to attend the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival on its impressive 26 by 56-foot screen, under the theatre’s twinkling stars. Pre-screening activities include a sing-along with the world-famous ‘Mighty Mo’ organ.
