5 Best Live Stage Shows at Disney World

December 11, 2017

Part of the Disney World experience are live stage shows. Each Disney World theme park has exceptionally entertaining productions featuring classic characters and new favorites. Which shows should you see while visiting the parks?

I’ve narrowed down five of the best live stage shows at Disney World Orlando you should squeeze into your itinerary.

5 Best Live Stage Shows at Disney World

1) Festival of the Lion King

Maybe it’s childhood nostalgia. Maybe it’s my love for Simba. But my #1 pick was a clear front-runner. Headlining at Animal Kingdom’s Harambe Village, Festival of the Lion King shines the spotlight on all your favorite Lion King characters and beloved songs. Animatronics, larger-than-life puppets and innovative performers in African animal costumes make the movie come to life right before your eyes. Just try to hear the “Circle of Life” without singing along!

Show Duration: 30 minutes
Show Times: Held hourly from 10am-5pm

2) Beauty and the Beast

A close second in the favorite Disney movie from childhood is Beauty and the Beast. Seeing the “tale as old as time” jump from cartoon form to charming stage show brought about the best of childhood. Performed at the Theater of the Stars at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the show is lavish, bold and bright in costumes, scenery and talent. Watch as Belle meets the Beast, listen as they fall in love and reunite with your favorite characters like Lumiere and Mrs. Potts.

Show Duration: 25 minutes

3) Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

Even though the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is one of the oldest shows at Disney, as it debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 1989, it is nostalgia at its best. All of my favorite scenes from “Raiders of the Lost Ark” are action-packed into the program. The technology in the show is a bit dated now, but that’s part of the throwback fun. Indy’s and Marion’s search for the golden idol is made dramatic by brash stuntmen, boulders, whips, explosions and epic bad guy chases. Be sure to volunteer for the casting call at the beginning of the show. You could be chosen to the join Indy on his adventure!

Show Duration: 30 minutes
Show Times: Daily, hours vary

4) Finding Nemo

Everyone’s favorite fish is found at the Theater in the Wild at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Park-goers of all ages enjoy an adventure under the sea with Marlin, his goofy friend Dory, Crush the Turtle and son Nemo. Swim through the Great Barrier Reef into an underwater world brought to life by over-the-top puppets, exceptional sets and special effects. The new musical numbers added to the show create an all-new experience. It’s the first time Disney has ever adapted a non-musical cartoon into a musical. To create the songs, Broadway veteran composer Robert Lopez was brought on, penning “Just Keep Swimming,” “Go with the Flow” and “In The Big, Blue World.”

Show Duration: 40 Minutes

5) A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

New to the Disney entertainment line-up, the Frozen stage show is simple yet extremely popular with Frozen fans. During the show, held at the Premiere Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you join Anna and Elsa for an interactive experience where you laugh and sing-along to your favorite Frozen songs. You won’t be able to “Let it Go” because you’ll be belting it out!

Show Duration: 30 Minutes
Show Times: Daily, hours vary

Although not technically a theater show, Dream Along with Mickey is a favorite of mine. All of the timeless Disney characters, from Mickey Mouse to Cinderella, come together for a show that is the essence of happily ever after. Even all of your favorite princesses make an appearance to sing classic songs such as “Some Day My Prince Will Come,” “Once Upon a Dream” and “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes." Dream Along with Mickey is located on the stage in front of Cinderella’s Castle.
