"Hilo volcano Discovery Tour"

We booked the Volcano Discovery Tour with Forest and Trail because we had 2 kids with us - 11 and 9 - and we wanted something that was not too long and involved getting the kids involved but at the same time did not mean being involved in a large group.. Forest and Trail were prompt in answering our questions and we felt they met our needs. On arrival, we found Brett, our guide at the airport and he advised that the other couple had pulled out so we were his exclusive guide for the whole day! He was great, easy going and very knowledgeable. He interacted well with the kids and he was able to give us the tour we wanted. The vehicle was comfortable for a 4WD - a MB Sprinter 4 x 4. It was air conditioned. The food and drinks included in our package were sandwiches which had heaps of filling in them, all healthy and filling, canned soft drinks, icy cold water and iced teas and also cake and packet chips. We made it clear that we didn't want the commercialism of the other tours on offer - we wanted something simple and direct. There was a 45 minute volcano walk and a 20 minute lava tube walk and a black sands swim included. Brett also made sure we were back in time for our return flight. The tour started at 9am and finished at 4pm. Definitely recommend Hawaii Forest and Trail. This tour was one of the shorter ones and even though the flight there and back made it a long day, it was still shorter than many of the others. The difference was in the knowledge and experience. Well worth it! Thanks Brett!

We were told we were gonna go 14,000ft to the mountain but instead went 7,000ft on another mountain. The Guide was very nice. But the tour itself needs to improve.
