"Outstanding Experience!"
September 2018
We went on the cruise after I found it in a tourist coupon book. I elected the 5 star cruise and it was so worth it! We were boarded first, had a truly memorable photo with the captain and had lite snacks and drinks before being seated. As for the cruise itself, the views of the shoreline, Diamond Head, and the sunset were absolutely spectacular. The crew/staff were very attentive throughout the cruise. The dinner was a 7 course masterpiece. 3 drinks each were provided free of charge. During the latter half of the dinner we were entertained by a fabulous jazz performance and traditional hula for the beginning. All in all this was the best event we attended on our week in Honolulu. I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone seeking a highly romantic night out!

"Disappointing Anniversary Dinner"
September 2018
We were in Hawaii to celebrate a wedding anniversary and were told the sunset cruise was a MUST do so we decided to do it for our anniversary. It was sooooo disappointing. We paid about $100 and truthfully it was more like a backpackers get together than a special Occassion celebration. It felt like we were being herded on like cattle to then realise we were on the bottom deck. The food was very average and definitely not worth $100 per person. Drinks weren’t included in that price. We were told there was a fabulous show ....the show was at best a 2 person sing along. It was so so so disappointing. We had told the person booking us in that it was for our anniversary and she said we would get the best seat in the house but in fact we were stuck in a corner that was so ugly even the photographer told us to move to get a nice photo. We declined moving and the photo. It wasn’t something we wanted to remember. Let down for our anniversary. Pricing should be reviewed. It was more like a $30 cruise than a $100 cruise. Biggest disappointment and spoilt our anniversary night

We were a party of 12 people and the service was impeccable. Great entertainment with live jazz music. We took a photo with the captain. From boarding to disembarking the staff made us feel special. Definitely a "Must do" when in Honolulu.

"A Dinner Cruise in the Honolulu Harbour area"
March 2015
My wife and I went out on a dinner cruise aboard the Star of Honolulu on February 27, 2015. The experience was just great. We booked the five star dinner cruise in order to have top of the line service and food and we were not disappointed.

From the time we boarded we were treated like VIP's and the young man who was to serve us throughout the evening greeted us by name as we had canapés and a drink on the back deck. He showed us to our table and was attentive at the end of the night as he was at the beginning.

Each meal course was served at exactly the right time and presentation was excellent. The food was delicious as were the drinks.

We were entertained throughout the evening by a wonderful piano musician who later joined by a saxophonist, then a singer. During the mid point of our meal we had traditional hula dancers providing an excellent show.

Overall the evening was great success in all areas. My wife and I loved it and would not fail to recommend this to anyone who should be visiting Honolulu as a "must attend event".

Tip: The lower decks seem to have a livlier brand of music with more of a party atmosphere. As we went out on the open deck we could hear their music and wondered what it would be like there. Next time we'll try that..

"Not many whales BUT its still a cruise"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

We have been twice and love it. The people are great and the boat is fab! I mean how can you beat this? You're on the water. LOVE being on a cruise! The only reason this is not 4-star is for one thing... no whales. But hey I know that you can not control nature BUT I wish the boat company would tell you that certain times of the year are less likely to see whales. I have bene on JAN and April and no whales. I go whale watching all the time and I know certain times of the year the whales are more present. Maybe Star of Honolulu should rename the title to dinner cruise on the waves? not sure. anyway we love them but just know that no one can promise a whale!

"FIREWORKS AND WHALES"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5
Reviewed March 28, 2020
In past years,we sailed on two cruises aboard beautiful Star of Honolulu and, lately, we returned for new experiences: THE FIREWORKS CRUISE and THE WHALE WATCHING CRUISE! Both were awesome and surely did not disappoint. On a Friday evening, sailing out of Honolulu harbor, myself and husband could admire the iconic Aloha Tower, the amazing Waikiki skylight and majestic Diamond Head, all of which are so romantic when seen at sunset from the sea!! After the welcome Mai Tai,we thoroughly enjoyed a well prepared buffet: husband went for misoyaki chicken and plenty of yakisoba, while I liked the fish with coconut sauce and that tasty salt crusted roas-tbeef. To be honest, we weren’t impressed by dessert, though we both feasted on some macadamia nut cookies. There was a nice polynesian show as well, with talented performers. Icing on the cake were those powerful and well “built” fireworks by Hilton Hawaiian Village; we did other dinner cruises, but this spectacular show is worth every penny you spend on the Friday cruise (a bit more expensive)! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A few days after, we sailed on the Whale watch cruise: our choice was The Premier cruise, 12.00-2.30 pm; we decided to skip lunch to have more whale watching time. We so LOVED the ample outdoor space, on the four decks there was plenty of room for everyone to sunbath, to admire the coastline and to spot LOTS AND LOTS OF WHALES!! At some point we could see 7 whales AND a mum with her calf:mesmerizing beauty!! It looked like the troop was happily “putting the show up” for us,playing quite close to our vessel. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing!! Again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the whole family

"Dinner cruise"

My girlfriend and I took the sunset dinner cruise and parts were great and part not so great. I'm allergic to dairy and even though I told them in advance, they didn't have my daily-free dinner ready. Then when they did get it ready, another crew member accidently put gravy on the meat and I had to wait for another dinner. The meat was far too rare-cool to the touch inside, and there was nothing to put on my plain white rice since I couldn't have the potatoes. So my meal, and my girlfriend's meal, wasn't great and I ended up eating after nearly everyone else by the time I finally got my dinner. The sunset was phenomenal and the show was fantastic. The crew were all very attentive and friendly. Just the food wasn't working out too well.

"Spent too much for so little (Dinner Cruise)"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5
Reviewed February 11, 2020
The experience started off on a wrong note when there was no sunset. My wife was really hoping to see a nice sunset but was disappointed. We purchased the lobster/steak dinner and were seated with four other individuals who could not speak English. So there was no interaction there. The food was subpar. The salad was bitter and I was not certain of the dressing The lobster was small with little meat. The steak was rare and tough. Pretty much everyone around me did not eat the dessert considering no one knew what it was. We took this cruise on a Friday evening when one of the hotels on Waikiki has fireworks. They were not that good especially since the ship was so far out. I guess one decent part of the evening was the show. It wasn't too bad. But I would NOT RECOMMEND this for anyone interested.
