"Sick"

The hotel itself was wonderful. The room was spacious, the beds comfortable and the beach being right there was great. There were 14 staying at the hotel and when we got back home all except 5 of us contracted covid. I'm on my 2nd day of being sick and had to go to urgent care. The air conditioner fan never turned off even though we set it to 74. The hotel is the only place in common for all of us. We didn't spend all our time together. In my opinion I think the air filters weren't changed. The other thing is it's so expensive. This is why I only gave it 3 stars.

"Busy hotel with lacking maintenance"

The state of the Diamond tower is shameful and Hilton should be embarrassed. Outdated decor can be forgiven, but the lack of maintenance cannot. The carpet in the hallway is no longer stretched properly and ripples throughout. Carpet seams are coming apart, leaving the carpet puckered. All of this creates a serious trip hazard and it’s only a matter of time before someone falls and sues. The hallway walls are extremely scuffed and the wallpaper is peeling in many places. I’ve honestly never seen a hotel in such bad shape. The pools are nice, but they lack adequate bathrooms. The super pool has one toilet for each gender for a pool that has hundreds of chairs. And those toilets are supposed to be for the Hau Tree Bar too. This is an extremely busy hotel. If you’re looking for a romantic or relaxing vacation then look elsewhere.

"A Piece of Paradise"

Booked our stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Villag via Virgin Holidays in the UK. Our initial booking was 5 nights in the Kalia tower, but we ended up upgrading on check-in to 5 nights in the Tapa Tower instead. Things we were aware of before staying: • Resort fee of around $60 per night • $75 a night parking – no thank you! CHECK-IN: Check-in is 4pm, and they really don’t want to check you in earlier unless you pay for it. We arrived around 1.30pm, but then registered for Hilton Honors rewards (free to do so) which allowed guests an earlier check-in. It took a while, but the staff member who was checking us in was thorough and was talking through options with us. We did upgrade our room at a cost of an extra $75 per night which got us a room in their Tapa Tower on a high floor. I can’t remember which floor, but the view from the balcony was great. We didn’t drive to the hotel, instead we took a Lyft from the airport which took around 20 minutes. No issues being dropped off at the resort and we were dropped off close to the check-in area. ROOM: I liked our room. It had everything needed as well as a lovely view. Housekeeping thoroughly cleaned the room each day and did a great job getting rid of sand! I can only imagine how much sand ends up in this hotel. We had no issues with noise and could sleep well overnight. There was a coffee maker in the room which was re-stocked daily. We also had a small fridge that we could put drinks, etc in. I have only stayed in the Tapa tower so have no other experience to compare room types too. I’m sure I’d have been happy in the Kalia tower too! RESORT: It’s big! It’s busy, but didn’t feel TOO busy for us. There were plenty of pools on site, and during our stay we never had any issues in getting a lounge-chair if we wanted one. We spent more time on the beach than the pools though. They also have the lagoon where you can rent things like paddle boards and kayaks, etc. It looks lovely over the lagoon at sunset. The resort has ample retail shops, food options, and ABC stores on site, as well as a small walk to others just around the corner. Although some say it’s out of the way of the main Waikiki strip, it wasn’t a bad walk – perhaps 20 minutes down to the “main” area. I liked this as it meant you could get beach space at the resort where it was quieter than the beach in Waikiki. They have an Enterprise Car rental on site. If you rent from there for 2 days+, there is discounted parking, but it was still a big amount in my eyes. We rented a car for 2 days and paid $20 for overnight parking at the Ala Moana Center which was about a 15 to 20-minute walk from the resort. If you’re mobile, that could be a far cheaper option than the $75 a night at the Hilton. Friday night fireworks are great, though the beach does get busy! You can watch them from anywhere on the beach along the front of the Hilton without any issues with the view. OVERALL: It was a great stay. Loved my time there. Yes, it's expensive (but I think that's the case across all beach-front properties in Waikiki) but I'd recommend it to others & would happily stay again if I am ever fortunate enough to go back to Oahu.
