The Village Bakery and Cafe in Los Angeles

Los Angeles’ the Village Bakery and Café, located in Atwater Village, is a quaint eatery that serves deliciously sweet pastries, salads, and sandwiches. The dog-friendly outdoor patio has a scenic view of the historic Pendleton Square.

The Village Bakery and Cafe, which opened in May 1995, enjoys serving and supporting the community with its tasty handcrafted dishes. Bakery owner and famed baker Barbara Monderine creates all of her original pastries and menu items.

Before following her passion for owning her own business, Monderine worked for Warner Bros. Records. Monderine also co-owned Auntie Em’s Kitchen in Eagle Rock and then the Villa Rose in Arcadia before buying her dream retail location in Atwater Village.

Bakery specialty items include cherry hand pies, coconut cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel frosting, the fightin’ almond cake, and the lemon olive cake. Some of the bakery’s seasonal pie favorites consist of the pumpkin and apple crumb, pecan, chocolate pecan. The nutty chocolate chip cookie with pecans and almonds should delight all nut lovers.

The bakers also offer a vegan chocolate cake, a flourless chocolate cake, cookies, and gluten-free cakes, brownies, and cookies. The Village also has vegan bread choices, along with its French baguette, sourdough loaf, and 12-grain loaf slice.

In addition to its delectable bakery sweets and desserts, the Village Bakery and Cafe’s menu offers breakfast favorites such as the Atwater Special Breakfast, the Village McMuffin Sandwich, and the Mediterranean Scramble. The Village Bakery also provides salads, bread, and specialty sandwiches like the Chipotle Chicken, Thanksgiving on a Bun, and the Vegan! Impossible Burger.

The Village Bakery and Cafe does do catering for special events; check the website for details. Patrons are also encouraged to sign up to become VIP members. Here, guests will be the first to receive updates on exclusive events, secret menus, special offers, and discounts.
