Horizon Theatre Company in Atlanta

The Horizon Theatre Company has been Atlanta’s home for the city's best contemporary theatre showcasing award-winning plays from around the world.

Located in an intimate 172-seat theatre between Atlanta’s Inman Park and the Little Five Points business and arts district, the company plays to 45,000 patrons annually, integrating their own brand of talent by producing nationally and internationally acclaimed plays.

Horizon Theatre Company History

Since 1983, Horizon’s mission has been to "connect people, inspire hope, and promote positive changes through the stories of our times." The company’s goal is to encourage important art that supports Atlanta’s diverse audiences.

Contemporary Plays

The Horizon Theatre Company consists of award-winning professional actors, directors, and designers. Their amazing collaborations have produced over 130 professional contemporary plays as well as their own written stories about Atlanta.

The theatre offers a discounted mainstage season package of six to eight contemporary plays. Horizon also offers a Family Series for younger audiences as well as Little Five Arts Alive, free outdoor performances that run from April until October.

Festivals and Workshops

Horizon drives new talent by creating original works, and their writers make new plays composed explicitly for the Atlanta community.

The theatre’s annual New South Play Festival program helps develop thriving artists through their educational programs such as the New South Young Playwrights Contest and Festival, Horizon In-School Playwriting Workshops, the Horizon Apprentice Company for early career professionals, the Intern Program for college students, and the New School Theatre Program for high schoolers.

Awards

Since the company’s inception, the troupe has won multiple awards and nominations, such as the 2019 Suzi Bass Award for Outstanding Ensemble for the cast in The Wolves, and Outstanding Lead Female Actor for Marcie Millard in The Cake, Outstanding Supporting Male Actor for Allan Edwards in The Cake. The group also received nominations from The Sunday Paper for ‘Best Production’ and ‘Best Theatre Company.’

Tickets

Performance tickets can be purchased online 24 hours a day, or patrons can call the box office, which is open from Tuesday-Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Horizon accepts all major credit cards, cash and checks. All tickets are non-refundable but single tickets may be moved or exchanged to another performance of equal or lesser value with a $5 exchange fee. All seats are general admission.
