This holiday season celebrate with a Dollywood Smoky Mountain Christmas. From November 9, 2019, through January 4, 2020, you can experience a winter wonderland filled with millions of holiday lights and spectacular holiday performances.
Dollywood Smoky Mountain Christmas Shows
With the purchase of Dollywood tickets, you also gain access to a full line-up of Christmas shows, which is the highlight of the event for me. Returning this season is Dollywood’s “It’s A Wonderful Life.” The original musical adaptation of the 1946 film brings to life the small-town charm of George Bailey and how he discovers the value of life, family, and friends. Along with a little help from his guardian angel Clarence, of course. Arrive at the Showstreet Theater 20 minutes or more before showtime to get the best seats.
If you can, make time for at least two more shows – Christmas in the Smokies and O’ Holy Night. Centered on tradition, Christmas in the Smokies is a downhome country Christmas with classic songs performed celebrating the joy of the season. O’ Holy Night brings the meaning of the season to the spotlight. Follow as three shepherds are guided by a star and a little girl looks for an angel.
Other performances during Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas include:
- Appalachian Christmas
- Meet Rudolph and His Friends
- The Kingdom Heirs: Heart of Christmas
- ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
Dollywood Smoky Mountain Christmas Attractions
Of course, there’s plenty more to see and do at Dollywood during Christmas. During a Dollywood Smoky Mountain Christmas, the park sparkles with millions of lights. As the sun sets and the temperature drops, Dollywood lights up with twinkling Christmas lights strategically strung in whimsical formations, on your favorite rides, and all across the 150-acre park. Talk about setting the mood for a magical Christmas season!
Santa’s Workshop in Santa Land is also a favorite of mine. The larger-than-life toys, 18-foot tall Christmas tree and Santa’s friendly helpers never fail to bring out the kid in me. Plus, you can get your photo taken with Santa for a cute holiday keepsake.
During your day enjoying a Dollywood Smoky Mountain Christmas, make time to do a little holiday shopping too. Unique treasures can be found throughout the craftsmen-based stores. Don’t want to carry your purchases around the park? No problem. You can choose parcel pick-up and collect your packages at the exit shop when your day of fun is done.
You’ll also want to make time for the Parade of Many Colors. This all-new parade is an exciting new holiday tradition which begins at 8:15 on operating dates. The Parade of Many Colors includes vibrant floats, interactive characters, and a number of other surprises sure to inspire guests with its heart-warming message.
As long as weather cooperates, rides and attractions will be open. Soar through the skies on Wild Eagle, feel the rush of Thunderhead, and then go for a spin on Dizzy Disk. It may be a bit chilly but the thrill is worth it! Furthermore, Glacier Ridge immerses guests in a winter wonderland filled with sparkling displays, Christmas music and decor, and a 50-foot video motion Christmas tree!
Faith at Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas
Before leaving the park you can also visit the Robert F. Thomas Chapel. The one-room country church, outfitted with simple wooden pews and hardwood floors, is a special place to reflect on Christmas. If you’re at the park on Sundays worship services are held at 5:30 pm during Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Festival.
Dining at Dollywood
When you get hungry, you can enjoy treats throughout the park-like a classic southern meal at Aunt Granny’s Restaurant or seasonal treats at Front Porch Cafe. Try specialties like ham, turkey, dressing, cinnamon bread, hot chocolate, and gingerbread men!
