"Disrespected, humiliated and discriminated by the staff"

I am writing this review in regards to a recent experience my family and I had at Universal Studios, which was both disappointing and disheartening. My family and I drove from Las Vegas to Universal Studios during my 11yr old son's spring break specifically to take advantage of your advertised First Responder promotion. According to the information provided on your website, first responders were eligible for free admission, with up to three accompanying family members receiving tickets at 50% off. As a Category One Police Officer, I met the criteria clearly outlined in the promotion. Upon arrival, I presented my badge and official ID at the kiosk. However, the supervisor on duty informed me that I did not qualify as a first responder. I reiterated my position as a police officer and showed her my credentials again, but she continued to dismiss my eligibility in a condescending and disrespectful manner—in front of my entire family. This public denial was not only humiliating but also deeply upsetting. I take great pride in my service in law enforcement, and this incident was especially hurtful as my son looks up to me for the work I do. The supervisor offered me only 10% off park admission. Frustrated and confused, I contacted Universal’s customer service. I explained that I had carefully read the terms and conditions on the website, which clearly stated that the promotion was open to all first responders—not just limited to certain counties or states. The representative I spoke with claimed the promotion was meant only for LA County sheriffs due to the recent fires, which was not disclosed anywhere in the public terms. She then offered me 20% off and said she could escalate the issue, though I wouldn't receive a response for a few days. I asked her to proceed with the escalation, stressing that what had occurred was false advertising. My family was devastated. After being denied the promotion at the gate, we had no choice but to return to Las Vegas, wasting our time, travel expenses, and the opportunity to make meaningful spring break memories. The next day, I received a call from a manager in Guest Communications who admitted that the situation had been mishandled and that I should have been eligible for the promotion. I explained that I simply wanted the offer to be honored. He said he would honor it, but only if I returned within the next couple of weeks—despite knowing I had just left the park, my son’s break was ending. This solution he was offering was completely inconvenient for myself and my family as we don't live the state! I requested a longer extension under these circumstances, but he refused. Instead, he offered 25% off for a future visit, which falls far short of the original promotion and does not make up for the way my family and I were humiliated and disrespected by the way we were treat. He also mentioned having many issues with staff misunderstanding the promotion. That, however, is not the responsibility of the guests—it is Universal’s responsibility to train staff properly and honor what they advertise. I am writing this complaint because this experience left my family feeling disrespected, misled, and discriminated against. The promotion was not honored, and our time and money were wasted. Most importantly, I was denied recognition as a first responder despite my service, which was both deeply personal and painful. I hope Universal takes this matter seriously and ensures other first responders are treated with the respect and integrity they deserve.
