Sheraton Universal Hotel Universal City, CA

Sheraton Universal Hoel - King Junior Suite During our tour of California we stayed in a few hotels and the Sheraton Universal was definitely towards the top of the pile. We arrived around 17:00 and were greeted warmly by the reception staff where we were checked in smoothly and quickly. We stayed for 6 nights in the King Junior Suite on the 9th floor overlooking the pool. The view was great as you got a nice view of the hills on the other side of the 101 through the windows which are floor to ceiling. The rooms were cleaned daily to a good standard, fresh towels, bedding, rubbish cleared and fresh bottled water provided each day etc. The room itself is big, plenty of space especially for 2 people. However despite the room being great there were a few things to note. The room is laid out like a U shape but the bit in the middle has no lights meaning in the early morning or late at night if you are in the sofa area you could be in pitch black. Furthermore the only mirror outside of the bathroom is on the bathroom sliding door, not really convenient when the both of you are trying to get ready. As many have mentioned before this hotel is across the street from Universal Studios Hollywood, pretty much no more than 5-10 minutes walk to the entrance and easy enough to find, most people staying here are people attending Universal Studios Hollywood so you will be able to follow the crowd. It does make mornings and nights when the park close seem quite busy. The hotel also provide a free shuttle bus which also takes only a few minutes and drops you off in the City Walk section so it’s a nice option to have. I would say that this hotel is in a seriously good location especially for central and downtown Los Angeles. During our trip we only went to the Universal park once and our other days were spent in and around LA. We even walked to the top of the Hollywood Sign which took less than an hour from the hotel. The reservoir was even closer like 20 minutes where you can get some of the most amazing views of the sign. They do have a big parking structure at the hotel if you plan on driving, which we did notice that it regularly had a line for velvet services for people waiting for there cars but can’t specify wait times as we didn’t park so can’t really say much more but just an observation of something we saw while leaving the hotel daily. We did use the Subway at the bottom of the hill of the hotel. It’s within 10 minute walking distance and has a bridge you can use to cross over the busy road. This is the Metro B Line that connects to LA Union Station, you can get to Hollywood and Vine Station in 7 minutes which takes you to the Hollywood Walk of fame and is a stones throw from the famous TCL Chinese Theatre. The hill itself is steep, makes going down it a breeze but more difficult going up but no slight on the hotel really. This hotel has a lot of potential and positives however there are sadly a few not so good things we encountered more nitpicks than anything else but something I feel should be mentioned. We were given a bit of a run around one night when we attempted to order food so we could take it up to our room. We had gotten to the hotel at around 21:30 and had noticed the night before that you could order food from the restaurant downstairs and take it up to the room with you. As we had not eaten yet that is what we decided to do. However as it was 21:40 at that moment we were told it was to close to 22:00 for them to make the order there and had to do it at the bar outside. When asking the bar member he angrily responded he couldn’t because he needed the bar closed for 22:00 and we needed to do it in the lobby. This is ultimately where we managed to order from even thought it felt like we were inconveniencing the bar staff by making the request. We didn’t think this was great, the fact it took 15 minutes of running around the hotel and being spoken to rudely for it to be completed. It’s not a major problem by any means but for such a nice hotel that had set great standards up until that point, for them to let themselves down on something so trivial was a little disappointing. It has to be said you could order to the room but that does come with a room service charge which would have been more than the food we ordered so initially we thought it would be quicker and easier to order at the source. Another thing to note is we didn’t think the path leading into the hotel was all that great. There seemed to be more emphasis on the road and the cars going into the hotel and pedestrian walkway was just a side note, you basically have to walk away from the hotel and then you walk through the car park or walk in the road to get to the hotel entrance, nothing major but again just something we thought let this great hotel down. All been said I would completely recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Los Angeles. In short: Pro’s .Modern and clean .Location .10 minute walk to the Subway Station .3-5 minute walk to the entrance of Universal Studios Hollywood and free shuttle bus to the park. Con’s .Lack of Lights and mirrors in the king suite .Walkway to the hotel entrance .Times and lack of flexibility on food pick up.

Good stay and location next to Universal. Hotel was nice, clean and rooms are up to date. Check-in was easy and service in the executive lounge by Maria and Linda was excellent. Service in the restaurant was also good. Minimal time waiting for elevators.No complaints.

Our stay at Sheraton Universal Hotel was such a treat. One that my family enjoyed and appreciated from the moment we checked in, until we left. We chose Sheraton Universal Hotel as it was close to the Universal Studios theme park. Apart from it being conveniently close to the theme park, they also offer complimentary round trip shuttle to the theme park. The hotel was very clean and well kept. We checked into an executive suite, that was spacious with amazing floor to ceiling windows that provided an amazing view. During our stay, we also had access to their club lounge, that is located on the first floor, where we enjoyed complimentary breakfast before our theme park days. Maria and Albino who worked in the club lounge were both incredibly pleasant and helpful. They were very personable upon interaction. Even our four children enjoyed their interactions. Apart from ensuring that our experience in the lounge was seamless, they made sure that the lounge was spotless and organized. Each staff member we cane across were very helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel, and will drfinitely be coming back for a visit. Thank you to the staff at Sheraton Universal for making our stay memorable.

Maria and Alvino were so kind and helpful during my stay. They made the atmosphere fun and were accommodating in every way. The lounge can be a hectic place but these two are exceptional at making every guest feel at home and able to put a smile on a lot face. Exceptional service.
