Cheap Things to Do in Myrtle Beach: A Visitor's Guide

August 10, 2017

Check out these cheap things to do in Myrtle Beach to save while you play on the Grand Strand.

One of the best things about Myrtle Beach is how affordable a vacation here can be. Myrtle Beach resorts cater to a wide range of budgets, while the biggest attraction—the beach—is absolutely free. What are other money-saving options available?

Play a Round

Myrtle Beach is golfer’s paradise, with over a hundred award-winning courses scattered throughout the area.  It also attracts another kind of golfer—the mini-golf enthusiast! Called the mini golf capital of the world due to its abundance of putt-putt courses (there are over 50), families of four can play a round at highly themed courses for $20. Two of the most popular Myrtle Beach mini golf courses are Cancun Lagoon Golf and Molten Mountain Golf.

Stop and Smell the Roses

A few miles from the beach you’ll find the Vereen Botanical Gardens, a gorgeous sanctuary of flora and fauna. There are numerous hiking trails and wooden boardwalks traversing salt marshes and small islands, and even a gazebo with view of the Intracoastal Waterway. Even better, you can enjoy this beautiful Myrtle Beach gem for free.

Get Cultured

At the Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum you can stroll through a restored beach cottage with various art exhibits that change throughout the year. The 10 galleries display local talents as well as world-renowned artists like Ansel Adams. Admission is free.

Attend Free Events

Myrtle Beach hosts special events and festivals throughout the year, like Ocean Boulevard’s Hot Summer Nights. Complexes like the Broadway at the Beach and the Market Common are prime places for free activities. At Broadway at the Beach, there are firework nights, a Kidz Time Festival, car shows, Summer Nights Festival and more. Market Common hosts events throughout the year too: go on a free horse and carriage ride, watch a free movie under the stars, listen to free music concerts, among other activities.

Catch a Game

Take me out to the ballgame! The Myrtle Beach Pelicans play baseball just a few miles from the ocean. Catch a game to see these up-and-coming minor leaguers, all at the low price of $8 (starting price). There’s always something special happening at the ballpark, with giveaways, a kids zone play area and fireworks featured. It’s one the best cheap things to do in Myrtle Beach and classic Americana.
