We arrived here to look around and suddenly found ourselves booking on a tour experience around the venue, which they have on a daily basis. We came here because my wife pad purchased a ticket for a pop star so we though about having a good look round first. This place used to be the home of Boxing in the USA before the big money took it to Vegas. As you walk upstairs around the arena there is a wall of fame and shows pictures from every day of the year where famous people have been there, boxing, cabaret, ice hockey, basketball, rock stars etc you name it. The tour guide took us into the changing rooms and right down onto the arena floor. You can see the wooden covering over the ice. Historically there have been about 4 different venues here over the years and for me being a boxing fan I loved this place. The tour costs about $20 each and even the pope visited here once. There are private boxes and it was pleasing to know that Trump doesn't have one. On the walls there was memorabilia from the first famous Frazier v Ali fight with one Frank Sinatra taking photographs because that was the only way he could get into the venue, an an official photographer. The tour takes you up and downstairs and is worth every penny. It's like taking a step into history. As you walk back out you can see the piano that Billy Joel used for his 12 Gardens tour and he was a resident artist here for many years, selling out the venue for every appearance.

We really enjoyed our tour of Madison Square Gardens. It was great to see this iconic venue in person and learn about its history. Our tour guide JJ was really enthusiastic and engaging. It was interesting to hear how the stadium works as a venue for concerts, ice hockey and basketball. There was a Knicks game on the day we visited so unfortunately we couldn’t get to see the locker rooms which would have been fun. We did get to see the half time show practicing though and that was cool. Overall we really enjoyed.
