We got the package with the river cruise and the bus tour over a period of 2 days - although there was a special that gave the 3rd day free, which worked out well for us. We did the river cruise at night, which was nice because the Christmas lights were on (they are lit through the first couple weeks of January, if I remember correctly). It was very busy, but worth the wait - which actually wasn't too long, even though the lines looked like it would be. The bus tour was hit or miss - some drivers are more personable than others, adding their own commentary to the audio tape - others just let the tape run while they drove. You can pick up the bus in multiple locations, but once you get to the Alamo Plaza, you'll need to wait for the next outbound bus, which was a little inconvenient. It was a good way to get an overview of the city.
