We just returned from our stay at Hotel Contessa. We have traveled extensively over the years and have a pretty good idea of hotel pricing but I have to say that this one got us. We stayed 4 nights in an executive corner suite. We decided to treat ourselves for our Christmas present so we spent over $1800 for this suite. The entrance to the living room looks just like the pictures. The bedroom is pretty much like the pictures. We had 2 dresser drawers that refused to stay closed, which was annoying but otherwise okay. Now, for the rest. The bathroom was awful. There was some form of brown stuff on the wall by the wastebasket, the toilet did not completely flush much of the time, there was absolutely zero storage so all toiletries had to be stored either on the vanity or on the cabinet outside of the bathroom, the tub looks like an original - it was badly worn and stained inside and out, the shower curtain was way too long so God only knows what form of bodily excrement from previous customers was on it, the conditioner pump was broken off, and it simply felt old and dirty. I kindly discussed feedback with the front desk and was told she would talk to her manager and call me that afternoon, which never happened. I stopped by again early that evening and talked to someone else who in turn talked to the assistant manager (who said that this was the first that she had heard about our issues) and then told me that she would credit me $60 and that she would also send maintenance in to address the toilet. I was supposed to call when we were out of the room, which we decided not to do, so that's on me because we figured out how to live with the toilet issue. However, I again talked to the front desk the morning of check out and he promised me that he would credit me the $60, which again didn't happen. That's 3 times I was told that they would do something for us and didn't credit us. First of all, $60 was a joke. They are nice to your face and then don't follow up. There are no hotel amenities such as a sundries shop or a coffee shop. There is a very nice bar and restaurant but that is it. It's not a bad hotel, just way overpriced for what you get and if you can live with the bathroom, it's fine. However, our original reservation was at the Marriott, which has shops, a sundries store and a coffee shop. The Marriott was about $1000 cheaper. I wish we would have saved the money and kept that reservation.

We enjoyed our time at the hotel. We had a very large room and got in very late at night, everyone was so accommodating. I have to say, our breakfast sever Francisco was the icing on the cake. We were juggling work video chats and 2 kids with a lot of energy before our sightseeing and he made our AM experience spectacular. As a business owner, I could only hope and pray to employ someone like him who goes above and beyond and is happy to do it.

This hotel has the potential to be a great hotel, with room for improvement. The toilet in my room has not flushed since I checked in and it’s a hassle or embarrassment to wait for housekeeping or maintenance to come fix or flush my toilet daily. Lastly if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing hotel room, please don’t stay here !!!! The elevators will keep you up all night, sound like you are near a subway station. I’ve been here 5 nights and have not been able to sleep during the night due to the noise of the elevator. I’m glad I’m checking out early in the morning

"Great hotel but restrooms could use an update"

The hotel is wonderful and in a ideal tourist location, however, once in the room the bathroom appeared to show its wear and tear and caused us a bit of disappointment. The shower curtain s are way to long and stick out too much so that water gets out through the sides and you step on part of the curtain while showering. Also the shower head does not swivel and was a bit short for us so we had to hunch a bit over so that the water stream was over our head and not pointed directly at our face. You can tell others tried to move it because it was slightly coming off the wall. The tub also had several hairs in it when we checked in so we had to buy cleaning wipes to wipe it down. The toilet clogged twice and water piled when showering so it oddly felt like we were getting dirty while showering. Lastly, for the shower, on day 2 there was a roach on the restroom carpet, we presume fro. Being so close to the lake. However, considering the hotels status and what we paid, it was a bit disappointing to have encountered these issues. The other issue we came across is I beleive the 2nd evening there we were unable to enter our room hen we retuened around midnight because apparently the door key apparatus needed a battery change. The Reservation desk attendant promptly helped us get in taking a laptop up to the room with us to let us in. The next morning we left thinking the issue would be looked into while we were gone...again considering the hotels ranking and price. We arrived later that afternoon to the same scenario as the night before. This matter was promptly addressed having people in the room changing the battery. Again great service, but wish we didn't have to be there for that and hoped it had been reported to be fixed while we were gone. On our last morning there we found an invoice for a charge at the bar/restaurant we didn't make. After addressing this with the front desk the charge was removed however we had to take time to get it resolved. Just wish there was verification for when people make room charges. We loved breakfast there and were happy with our stay, however, these things made us reconsider staying here in the future just considering the minor inconveniences for the price. It really was a great hotel outside of this.

Nice hotel but to me, short staffed, room was not cleaned 1 day and nobody to clean it in the evening. To call front desk, is faster to walk down to ask for what you need, I was expecting more… maybe I had bad luck, it’s a pitty because its location is great and very nice facilities
