Loungin’ Out at Sexy & Swanky San Diego Lounges

February 24, 2015

You’ve just had an amazing meal, it’s way too early for a nightclub, and you don’t want to keep the night going at a sports bar, so where do you go?

A lounge! San Diego lounges are perfect for when you’re in the mood to have a nice conversation in an atmosphere that is sophisticated, yet vibrant. Great music is playing, your head is bobbing, but no one is spilling drinks on you, and you can actually get a drink as soon as you belly up to the bar. Here is a list of some of my favorite San Diego lounges in town.

Kettner Exchange (Little Italy)

Since this place is just up the block from where I live, you’ll find me here at least once a week. It’s a new restaurant, but the second floor rooftop was designed to lounge. There are DJs spinning anything from deep house to 90’s R&B and hip hop Thursday-Sunday, and there are quite a few couches to hang out on. The cocktails are great, and so is the food!

Meze Greek Fusion (Gaslamp)

This restaurant has phenomenal cuisine, but what’s best is that you won’t want to leave after your meal. Situated on the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter, this lounge will entertain with fun beats from local DJs, the occasional belly dance performance, and hookahs. The high warehouse ceilings with open skylights make it a perfect venue for those who want to smoke hookah, as well as those who don’t care for it.

Altitude Sky Lounge (Gaslamp)

Located on the 22nd floor of the Gaslamp Marriott, Altitude has breathtaking views of the San Diego Bay as well as the field at Petco Park. The fire pits and belly up seating to the views make this bar a not to miss stop while you’re in town. They recently opened another room that adds an alternate view into the Gaslamp Quarter.

Vin de Syrah (Gaslamp)

This majestic wine bar is situated underground in the Gaslamp Quarter, but look really hard because the entrance is hidden behind a secret door. Imagine what it would be like to be in Alice and Wonderland (the movie). That's Vin de Syrah. There are many places to sit and relax, and the wine flights are amazing! Check out the wine tasting and events schedule throughout the week, including a show by yours truly and friends every Friday night.

JRDN Lounge (Pacific Beach)

In Pacific Beach, this gem sits right on the boardwalk. Watch the sunset from your bar seat as you sip on your handcrafted cocktail. The room is filled with ample seating, and the décor is casual yet sophisticated. You’ll enjoy the refreshing breeze coming through the sliding doors.

Del Mar Plaza (Del Mar)

As one of North County’s top hang out spots, this area boasts a wide-open space on the second floor of a mini-mall. So, if you get bored having delicious wine watching the sunset, you can go shopping. I definitely did when I forgot my sunglasses. Enoteca del Fornaio has the largest open-air area, and it’s a perfect place for pizza and a bottle of wine.

The next time you’re all dressed up after dinner, and you definitely don’t want to go home, make sure to head into one of these lovely lounges. You’ll see beautiful people, breathtaking views, sip on well-made drinks, and listen to groovy jams.
