"My trip was spoiled by the hostile and aggressive behavior of the park's security guard"

After writing to Splashtown’s corporate office and VIPsupport, and not receiving any sort of constructive feedback, I am forced to go this route. On Wednesday, May 1st of 2024, I traveled alone to Houston and decided to visit several nostalgic locations in Houston, including Splashtown – Hurricane Harbor, which holds significant personal value for me as it is where I held multiple season passes and first met my wife when we were just teenagers. It was my first trip back to Houston in over 15 years. Splashtown was the first stop on my list. I excitedly arrived at the open parking lot after pulling off I-45 around 9:45 a.m. The large white gates to the park were wide open, and there were no signs indicating that the park was closed nor were there signs indicating that the parking lot was closed to the public. I got out of my vehicle at the far end of the parking lot and used a GoPro to record a personal vlog to show my wife some video/pictures of the slides we used to enjoy as teens. Shortly after I began filming, a Caucasian man in his mid-fifties (about 5’8”) who was wearing a straw hat and casual clothing, approached me in an aggressive manner. He instructed me to turn off my GoPro, stated that I was not permitted to be there, and informed me that the park was closed, without identifying himself or providing any credentials. In fact, he wasn’t wearing any sort of name tag, nor did he wear any type of badge. I assumed he was a security guard of some kind. Using a friendly tone, I explained that I was doing a sort of nostalgia trip and wanted to share some video of the park with my wife who was back in Tennessee at the time. He stated, “That’s not true. We both know what you’re doing here” and abruptly claimed to know who I was and insinuated ulterior motives behind my visit, demanding that I leave the premises at once. Once again, I attempted to clarify my intentions and asked for further explanation, but he remained rudely curt and hostile, even going so far as to request my ID. Feeling shocked and confused, I complied and left immediately. While driving out, I noticed that the man took several pictures of my license plates like I was some sort of suspect. The encounter was highly unpleasant and had left me questioning the underlying reasons for the treatment I received as I drove away. To prevent this from reoccuring with someone else, I recommend better “signage” for folks entering Splashtown’s parking lot. I was unaware the park was closed, and it was an honest mistake, as I am accustomed to accessing parking lots at other establishments like Walmart or various gas stations after hours without issue. Splashtown – Hurricane Harbor holds cherished memories from my childhood, and this incident has unfortunately tarnished them. I trust that this issue will be brought to this security guard’s attention and that he be made aware that this poor review is due solely to his unacceptable behavior.

"Disappointed but Six Flags made it right."

***UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM 8/19/2024 We bought $160.00 in tickets for our family to go to Hurricane Harbor Splashtown for 8/17/2024. We were there at 10:50 and the park opened up as normal at 11:00am. We beelined it over to where the Tornado, Lazy River, Tree House and about 1/2 of the park rides exist. When we tried to get over to that section it was blocked off and we were told it was opening late and to come back in about an hour due to being short staffed. As far as I could tell, the only things open were 3 slides, the wave pool, the kids club pool and the surfing ride. We returned at noon to the gate still up with a lifeguard guarding it so no one could get back there. The lifeguard was unpleasant when we asked him if they had an ETA of when it will open up. He said he didn't know and seem quite annoyed with us. We returned an hour later @ 1pm to find it still wasn't open and were told again that it would probably be another hour. Finally around 1:45pm we noticed that it was open and were finally allowed to go to that side. There were still 1/2 dozen rides still closed throughout the park from the time we got there at 11 until we left @ 3pm. We spent a lot of money for our family to attend for the 4 hour period we had planned and most everything was closed for almost the first 3 hours. Needless to say, I felt taken advantage of and that I wasted a lot of money so that my kids can stare at a bunch of rides that were closed. I should mention - my family usually goes to Typhoon Texas in Katy but I was told by some friends that Hurricane Harbor is amazing and way bigger than Typhoon Texas. It came highly recommended and we left highly dissatisfied. It was not a good first impression and I am not sure that I will ever go back. I am disappointed because we were really looking forward to an epic day of rides, laughs and fun and it was the complete opposite. **UPDATE 8/19/2024** I contacted Six Flags on their chat forum and was directed to a human after a brief answer session with the automated chat. I expressed my disappointment about the majority of the park being closed off. To my surprise, they are providing us with 4 new tickets to go on another date before they close for the season. This was the correct thing to do and I applaud Six Flags for trying to make it right.

So bad I felt compelled to write this review. Booked online, no issues and purchased a standard ticket. Got there early (opened at 11) and no queues for entrance which was fine. Decided to get a cabana, when I got to counter the only one remaining was upstairs wave pool Palapa. Paid over $300 for this along with a small deposit for breakages. Once I had paid, the counter agent advised me that they had no towels, even though that was part of the package.he advised me that they would give more water, this never happened. The Palapa had 4 chairs and one lounger, no cushions / pillows, not even on the lounger. Then the fun part. More than the park remained closed until after 1pm, meaning only the wave pool was open. We complained and were advised that the other side was open. Which it was not (pictures to back this up) So basically, we paid approx 500$ for entry , cabana, food (19$ for a slice of pizza and a handful of fried, 14$ for a beer or can of seltzer) we had the wave pool and 1 x kids area. After twice requesting to speak to a manager I spoke to a beverage manager and an aquatic manager who both shrugged and said they had not got the staff? So why not advise people of this before they pay, particularly before they pay for a Cabana and expect to stay for the day. The queues for the few slides / attractions that opened were crazy and we ended up leaving at 2pm, out of pocket and p**sed off. Visiting from Europe and a place like this would be closed in 1 x summer. Toilets were absolutely filthy within 10 mins of opening and the place smelt like wet dog. Staff lazy and hanging around in groups fooling around. Avoid, avoid, avoid - I hope 6 flags corporate see this, feel free to contact me.

"Fun waterpark! Needs improvements!"
TripAdvisor user rating 3.0 out of 5

I visited Hurricane Harbor Splashtown on a busy Saturday, there was only one ride closed for maintenance (Big Spin). Everything else was open. Something I noticed was not all the rides opened with the park. 60% of rides opened an hour or two after the park opening which I found odd. The operations were very slow (especially on Vortex and Runaway Rapids) and the staff we lazy and didn't do their jobs as a ride operator. The park was also understaffed with an average of only one worker per tower which led to long lines. There is a waterslide for everyone! Kids, teens, adults, etc. I highly recommend riding the "Tornado" ride, as it has the best thrills and speed! I do not recommend riding the "Vortex" and "Runaway Rapids", they are not as fun as they may look, the lines get too long, and the stairs burn your feet from the hot Texas sun! Overall, I think the Hurricane Harbor Splashtown is a great waterpark, but it needs some improvements on its operations.
