Description

from Rock-A-Hula®
Rock-a-Hula! is a spectacular live concert featuring a "Hawaiian Journey" from 1920's to current through music and powerful performances by Legends Artists, hula, fire knife dancers and amazing musicians at the Royal Hawaiian Theater.

Along with legendary artists of yesteryear, our guests enjoy contemporary popular musical artistry showcased on the same stage as the thrilling historic performers. Imagine the “King of Rock n Roll” alongside the “King of Pop” singing on stage together with Elton John and Madonna. It happens 6 nights a week (excluding Mondays) at Legends in Concert Waikiki!

The 75-minute show was specifically developed for Hawaii and has been artistically infused with Hawaiian song and dance that underscores the island connections of the original artists. The concert begins with a huge, 42-foot tall, 3-screen visual experience that “lands” the audience in Hawaii where they are greeted by ancient Hawaiian chants and kahiko hula.

During the show, historic Hawaiian performances of the original artists are recreated through the magic of computerized projections of actual concert footage blended with live, on-stage singing and dancing by the tribute artists and a dozen professional dancers. The concert concludes as the audience joins in singing Aloha ‘Oe, the most beloved of all Hawaiian songs, composed by Princess Lili‘uokalani

The show’s name, “Rock-a-Hula!” is taken from the Elvis hit song, Rock-a-Hula Baby. The song’s mixed genre of rock and roll and Hawaiian folk captures the essence of Legends in Concert Waikiki.

Talent and professionalism of the show was top notch great singers and amazing dancers, including the guy who did the fire dance at the end of the show. The venue was nicely situated and within easy walking distance from most of Waikiki. The theater is nicely-suited for the show, and the show was well organized, with time to enjoy each part of the evening without any lulls. We did the VIP stage-side dinner and the food was pretty good.

"There are better options..."

As much as there were some entertaining aspects to this show, there are better luau options in Oahu when visiting. We felt very rushed throughout the entire experience, when we arrived we received a drink and pre-show. The pre-show entertainment although very friendly, felt very rushed. Food was alright...we barely had enough time to even grab dessert before they were announcing the show to start. Lots of options to choose from but nothing stood out to us. The Show also felt a bit rushed at times when it came to the woman singing in between the sets. Costumes were subpar and felt cheap at times. The "Michael Jackson" was constantly pulling up his pants throughout the show. With this being said, there were some entertaining highlights because of the familiar songs. Definitely not an authentic Hawaiian experience, however you should know that going into it. I do think there are better options for luaus on the island so do your research prior to going. I found this show from a Travel Influencer whos spoke very highly of it and am quite disappointed with his recommendations.

"So Much Fun!"

My husband and I did the Stageside VIP Dinner and it was so much fun! This was the activity that I was both the most and least excited about - I was so worried it was going to be corny and the dinner was going to be bad, but I was SO wrong. We were escorted into the venue and greeted with drinks and appetizers that were very tasty. Then we were escorted to our seats next to the stage where dinner was served. Dinner was really very good. It started with a lobster/salad course, then a duo of filet and salmon with some really good sauces and ended with coconut ice cream over fresh pineapple. One drink was served with the appetizers and another alcoholic drink was included with dinner. You could order more if you wanted, but had to pay separately. Dinner was cooked very well, which shocked me since it is so easy to overcook steak for a large group.Their wait staff was top notch as well. The show was AMAZING. Their Elvis and Michael Jackson impersonators were fabulous and there were also hula dancers and Polynesian singers. It was really a fabulous time and a very very professionally done performance. My husband and I both loved every single part of the show - and that is a rarity! I would recommend to anyone. The audience was varied in age from 2-80 and I think everyone had a good time. This was one of our favorite nights on Oahu.

"Different kind of luau"

I had never been to luau before and had decided on Rock A Hula luau. It was not what I thought a luau would be. This was really a buffet dinner and show. I have to say the show was awesome and fun! Really enjoyed it; but if you're looking for a luau outdoors, this is not what your looking for. But a dinner and really fun show with Michael Jackson and Elvis impersonators, this is it!

We opted for dinner and show and were not disappointed. Meal was very good but did not offer poi or some other fare related to luau. Hosts were part of the cast from show and made you feel comfortable and ready for the show. Tribute to two of the greats .... Elvis and Michael Jackson.... very entertaining to go.with the short trip of memory lane of history of Hawaii and the relation with the U.S.. Not totally Polynesian hula, but still great fun and all in downtown Honolulu.
