from Island Breeze Lu'au
Winner of the "Best of West Hawaii" award which was first presented in 2000, the Island Breeze Luau at King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel is a favorite of kama'aina (local residents), visitors and travel professionals.

Each evening guests are invited to join in a cultural experience that shouldn't be missed. The lu'au is well known for its delicious food and its amazing Polynesian production, and its beautiful unique location. It is held on the beachfront of historic Kamakahonu Bay and Ahu Ena, Kamehameha the Great's former estate in Kailua-Kona. Guests enjoy a backdrop of passing fishing boats, paddlers in outrigger canoes, and the lights of Kona and Mount Hualalai.

Considered a "Royal Hawaiian Experience", the lu'au features a 22 dish buffet, open bar, Polynesian arts & crafts demonstrations, and the Royal Court procession. Highlighting the evening is the spectacular Polynesian Revue. Where authenticity and the skills of the Island Breeze Ohana, is matched only by the spirit of aloha they share with the audience. All of this creates a very special cultural experience and memories that will last a lifetime.

The Island Breeze show is filled with excitement, aloha and 'ohana, (love and family). From the Fijian and Maori dances of war to the gracefulness of our Hawaiian hula hands, we bring you and your family a fun-filled evening. It does not get a very good only because weather forced it inside which really takes something away from the event. However they were willing to change it to another day for me , unfortunately I was leaving the island and was not able to reschedule.

"Luau Love"
June 2018
I Lved the Island Breeze Luau. It was my first time to visit Hawaii. The luau was not just entertaining and delicious. It was also like watching a living history lesson. I learned about all the Polynesian countries that influenced Hawaii through dance. The unveiling of the pig at the beginning of the dinner portion was also very cool. Watching King Kamehameha and the Royal Court walk in at the beginning showed how important the Royal Family still is to the people of Hawaii. I just want to say Mahalo to Island Breeze for the wonderful experience ????

"Amazing Performances!"

Atmosphere: right on the water. Probably the best view of Kona itself. Once it gets dark you can see Kona light up the mountainside. There was even a rainbow across the island during our evening. Truly Wonderful. Food: Great! Everything I tried was so wonderful. The Teriyaki beef wasn’t some overpowered teriyaki thing you get at most restaurants on the mainland. This was wonderful! The smoked pork, cooked fish, Kona Coffee BBQ chicken, and Lomi Lomi salmon were all amazing. Entertainment: this was the best part of it all. They really do make you feel like Ohana (family). You could tell they truly wanted to make everyone feel welcome and their performances were absolutely stunning. They give you a variety of different experiences from various Polynesian islands. Not just Hawai’i. I learned that a lot of the things I thought were Hawaiian were actually not and stemmed from other islands and cultures. Very talented people and very inspiring performances. I will recommend choosing this as your Luau when in Kona!

We booked this Luau with the Hano Hano (premium seats and early seating) option. There is not much of a benifit to the "hano hano" option. You are still sat at fold up tables and sat in plastic lawn chairs crammed together like sardines. You have to get your own drinks and they are limited to your basic type of liquor and mixed with juice or sodas. The only mixed they had was mitai and those didn't even come with fruit. They had two kinds of beer, Coors Light and Budweiser. The food was good quality except the choices were limited. If you dont like ice berg salad.... no other choice of greens were available. There was macaroni salad a bean salad. The meat was good. They had the kalua pork, huli huli chicken and terryaki beef, herb steamed fish and poki. There was three desserts, chocolate cake, vanilla cake with coconut topping and the traditional haupia. The show was good. The live music consisted of 3 string players, a drummer and a singer. There was a master of ceremonies/narrator. The stage had 4 ladies and 4 gentlemen performers/dancers. All in all the production felt small but the performers did well together. It is advertised as a sunset luau, the setting sun can not be seen due to the stage and other items blocking the view. As well as the air in the seating area seemed stagnant and enclosed. Long and short of it... absolutely do not buy the premium seating. It is the same as general admission. When I come back to the island, I will deffinately be exploring other luaus to go to before I go to this one again.

We’ve been to several Luaus on Oahu and Maui but this was our first on the Big Island. The setting is beautiful- right on the waterfront and just in time for some spectacular sunset photos. We even had a rainbow (see below) It’s on the grounds of the Marriott so plenty of parking but plan ahead the hotel is in a busy part of town and rush hour (Hawaii rush hour but still busy!) gets a little backed up trying to get in to the parking lot. Kind of strange given the setting that they take “the luau photo” indoors. Small charge if you want to buy. Not a ton of activities pre-show but since it’s on a King Kamehameha historic site there is a nice intro of the “royal family’s “ arrival. We thought the food was very good. It’s the usual luau combination but the pork was moist and flavorful and was the beef was even better. Not always the case! The hosts dismiss by tables so there not a long wait at the buffet. We don’t have little kids but it appears they had options for them. The best part of the dinner is the beautiful sunset and view over the ocean. We even had rainbows... perfect spot for your family photo! The show itself was good, not as great or as large as we’ve seen elsewhere but the dancers and the hostess were all very talented and engaging. And really nice that it’s outside. All in all a very nice evening - when you’re in Hawaii you HAVE to go to a luau!

"So Fun"

This luau at the Marriott Kona Beach Hotel was so fun. It was our first luau and we weren't disappointed. We arrived long before the doors opened and were one of the 1st in the non-preferred seating (still a really good seat). There were several things to do before the actual luau (drinks, 'tattos', instrument playing, hula lessons). Food was excellent - of course with the roasted pig being the 'guest of honor' - and there was plenty for seconds if a person wanted more. The show had several dances representing the different Polynesian cultures that became part of the Hawaiian culture. The evening flew by and our parking ticket was validated so it only cost $5 to park in the hotel's lot. Be sure to order tickets ahead of time because there were people who were shut out the evening of the luau.
