First time visiting the big island and had the resort recommended to us by friends who have stayed before. Pros: Great location easy access to town , parking(albeit paid) but available , un paralleled view from the bar/restaurant, rooms comfortable and clean, some of the fastest elevators I’ve experienced in a hotel. Front desk staff extremely friendly and helpful. The pool is small but clean with plenty of sun chairs and a few cabanas for rent with AMAZING sunset views. Prices at restaurant/bar are not outrageous as in some other resorts. Cons? : Be aware there is a Luau during the week that takes place in the main entrance area of the hotel. It goes until 930, but if you have a room on that side of the hotel the show is amazing.😜 The resort amenities are not as bougie as other more modern resorts. But if you like things a little more old school this is the place. At the pool there are no servers but the bar and restaurant are very close. Overall a very nice intro to the Big Island and Kona will be back.

I always have a great time. The staff is the greatest. The bartenders are the best. The food is great. The ocean view with the breeze blowing through the night with the sun going down. It’s the most beautiful site. I will always treasure my memories at the Royal kona resort.

The Royal Kona Resort sits atop a lava promontory over looking the Pacific Ocean. The views are lovely and having breakfast every morning in the hotel restaurant sitting next to the ocean was wonderful. Our corner ocean front room also provided great and relaxing views. The staff was all courteous and helpful. Unfortunately the resort is in serious need of what would seem to be routine maintenance. Everywhere you look in the public areas there is chipped paint, rust, corrosion, and missing pieces of exterior siding. It may be an old time Hawaiian resort, but it shouldn't have to appear neglected. There are some lovely outdoor spaces, but just don't look too closely. We stayed in the Bay Tower. The elevator doors were banged, dented, dirty, and in serious need of repainting. The interior courtyard was open, with nice plantings, but the carpets were seriously water stained. The hallway on our floor was not vacuumed the entire time of our stay, although it didn't look dirty, the same bits of paper and plant material never moved. The resort is in walking distance of some great restaurants and good shopping. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay despite the apparent lack of up keep.

We were on Oahu, Maui, and Kona. This was by far the best resort! 99% of the staff were very professional and welcoming. They actually smiled and looked like they love their job! The restaurant was awesome! Server LACEY was awesome. Very warm. Very genuine. The rooms were awesome. You can go to sleep listening to the waves! The only concern I had was restaurant server DESMOND. Looked like if he smiled his face would crack. Needs to go back into training. All in all I would highly recommend this resort on Kona!

The staff is outstanding. From the room cleaners, the wait staff at the restaurant and the desk staff are friendly and always ready to make our visit special. We have been there at least 6 times or more and never had a complaint. The desk staff remembers us and treats us special. The sunsets are magical from the pool and restaurant. And if you’re lucky you might see Joe ( the dolphin whisperer). He swim out daily to spend time swimming with his dolphin friends.
