Originally, the museum was the Hotel Alcazar commissioned by Standard Oil executive, Henry Flagler. It was built in 1888 consisting of 3 floors. Many of the beautiful pieces of furniture were from mansions in Chicago. Worth visiting.

There is a lot to the Lightner Museum. The building itself is interesting inside. It was the playground of the rich and famous who stayed at Flagler's hotel across the street. There was a giant swimming pool on the first floor (there is a small cafe there now). some of my favorite things to see include a collection of old bicycles and old music machines. There is a new, good restaurant across the street - French food on one side and Vietnamese food on the other.

Not only this is a beautiful and historic building, the exhibitions were great! I especially enjoyed how they show their love to St. Augustine - so many pieces of art from the city from over a century ago and items from locals. The baths/pool is so cool too!

Although it has a good amount of stuff to look at, it will not take you as long to go through it, like many people have said. There was an older gentleman working there who told us some of the history of the place.

Nothing in St Augustine is free to visit. The lightner was partially closed but we still paid full price. If you want to visit museums go to DC everything is free. Lightner was somewhat interesting nut even at $17 not worth the pricei of admission.
