Description

Located on the historic and private Manchac Swamp, Cajun Pride Swamp Tours offers an unforgettable swamp boat eco-tour in the heart of Louisiana’s picturesque bayous and swampland. Just a short distance from New Orleans, this privately-owned wildlife refuge offers the opportunity to journey back to the early days of the Louisiana Bayou and swamp explorations. For many years people have traveled extensively to locate a unique and exciting adventure exploring Louisiana's backcountry with its meandering bayous and swamps that you can only experience here.

Being on a privately owned swamp ensures that your narrated tour will not be disturbed by other boats. The tours are led by Cajun boat captains who have grown up in the Bayous of South Louisiana. With their charming accents and humorous storytelling, they will guide you through the enchanting beauty of moss-draped cypress trees, introducing you to the captivating world of American alligators and abundant wildlife.

Swamp creatures see the boats daily and recognize them as part of their normal environment. Unafraid and responsive to their boat captain's call, they peek out from underbrush and between moss-draped trees and shrubs, frequently coming directly to the boat. In the safety and comfort of the boat, you can actually come within a few feet of jumping alligators.

As your boat drifts through the waterways, you will learn about the Louisiana Wetlands, the swamp inhabitants, particularly the life and habits of the American Alligator, and the unique history of the Cajun town of Frenier within the Manchac Swamp.

Our tour began promptly meeting at the Greyhound line near the Natchaz Steamboat at 11am. The bus was new, airconditioned, had seatbelt, foot rests and very comfortable cushioned seats. Our tour guide was Dionne. She was a treasure trove of NOLA history. We began our tour with Cajun Pride Tours in the bayou. Dustin was the captain of the Pontoon. The boat was safe and Dustin went above and beyond to share his knowledge and interact with the animals. We saw wild boar, racoons, and alligators. Dustin also let us hold a baby alligator. He was an amazing Captain keeping us safe , informed, and entertained. The desk/ main ticket office there was well air conditioned and there were also opportunities to buy light snacks and souvenirs. After the swamp tour we loaded on the bus again in route to Whitney Plantation. Whitney Plantation was an incredibly moving and special experience. It was one of the only few plantations that strictly focuses on the lives of the enslaved people who built and maintained the plantation. It especially loved hear the first hand accounts and stories throughout the plantation. The gift shop was also wonderful and equip with a small indoor exhibit of the slave trade as a whole. The plantation tour was 2 hours and and the Oak Alley tour was 3 hours. After our time at the Whitney finished we drove to Oak Alley to pick up the other passengers. It was nice to be able to see both plantations (only saw Oak Alley from the outside/inside the bus). The driver was friendly and made the long rides throughout the day enjoyable.

"Tour was fine but the shuttle ride was horrible"

The tour itself was fun, but the shuttle bus on the way there and back was playing club music at full volume, which was very annoying. Be careful if your driver is named Big Joe. I told them to turn the volume down, but they wouldn't listen. It was an 80-minute round trip from the hotel to the tour location, and it was annoying the whole time.

Great experience! Captain Dustin was excellent! He had lots of pertinent info and was fun. Bring a small stadium blanket or cushion to sit on if it’s cold outside.
