"Total Waste"
March 2018
We were on a six day vacation and this day was totally wasted. There were no whales at all. They offered a rain check, but with only two days remaining, why waste a second day. They gave no advance notice that they had discontinued acceptance of American Express. No whales, no American Express, no food, no drinks, no picture, just a total ripoff and waste of time.

"Not many whales BUT its still a cruise"

We have been twice and love it. The people are great and the boat is fab! I mean how can you beat this? You're on the water. LOVE being on a cruise! The only reason this is not 4-star is for one thing... no whales. But hey I know that you can not control nature BUT I wish the boat company would tell you that certain times of the year are less likely to see whales. I have bene on JAN and April and no whales. I go whale watching all the time and I know certain times of the year the whales are more present. Maybe Star of Honolulu should rename the title to dinner cruise on the waves? not sure. anyway we love them but just know that no one can promise a whale!

"FIREWORKS AND WHALES"

In past years,we sailed on two cruises aboard beautiful Star of Honolulu and, lately, we returned for new experiences: THE FIREWORKS CRUISE and THE WHALE WATCHING CRUISE! Both were awesome and surely did not disappoint. On a Friday evening, sailing out of Honolulu harbor, myself and husband could admire the iconic Aloha Tower, the amazing Waikiki skylight and majestic Diamond Head, all of which are so romantic when seen at sunset from the sea!! After the welcome Mai Tai,we thoroughly enjoyed a well prepared buffet: husband went for misoyaki chicken and plenty of yakisoba, while I liked the fish with coconut sauce and that tasty salt crusted roas-tbeef. To be honest, we weren’t impressed by dessert, though we both feasted on some macadamia nut cookies. There was a nice polynesian show as well, with talented performers. Icing on the cake were those powerful and well “built” fireworks by Hilton Hawaiian Village; we did other dinner cruises, but this spectacular show is worth every penny you spend on the Friday cruise (a bit more expensive)! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A few days after, we sailed on the Whale watch cruise: our choice was The Premier cruise, 12.00-2.30 pm; we decided to skip lunch to have more whale watching time. We so LOVED the ample outdoor space, on the four decks there was plenty of room for everyone to sunbath, to admire the coastline and to spot LOTS AND LOTS OF WHALES!! At some point we could see 7 whales AND a mum with her calf:mesmerizing beauty!! It looked like the troop was happily “putting the show up” for us,playing quite close to our vessel. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing!! Again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the whole family

"Dinner cruise"

My girlfriend and I took the sunset dinner cruise and parts were great and part not so great. I'm allergic to dairy and even though I told them in advance, they didn't have my daily-free dinner ready. Then when they did get it ready, another crew member accidently put gravy on the meat and I had to wait for another dinner. The meat was far too rare-cool to the touch inside, and there was nothing to put on my plain white rice since I couldn't have the potatoes. So my meal, and my girlfriend's meal, wasn't great and I ended up eating after nearly everyone else by the time I finally got my dinner. The sunset was phenomenal and the show was fantastic. The crew were all very attentive and friendly. Just the food wasn't working out too well.

"Spent too much for so little (Dinner Cruise)"

The experience started off on a wrong note when there was no sunset. My wife was really hoping to see a nice sunset but was disappointed. We purchased the lobster/steak dinner and were seated with four other individuals who could not speak English. So there was no interaction there. The food was subpar. The salad was bitter and I was not certain of the dressing The lobster was small with little meat. The steak was rare and tough. Pretty much everyone around me did not eat the dessert considering no one knew what it was. We took this cruise on a Friday evening when one of the hotels on Waikiki has fireworks. They were not that good especially since the ship was so far out. I guess one decent part of the evening was the show. It wasn't too bad. But I would NOT RECOMMEND this for anyone interested.
