"Good Experience BUT..."

My son asked to go to Hurricane Harbor to celebrate his 8th birthday. Overall, it was a good experience. However, there was a big problem for me. See, I had called the phone number to check on how to do tax exemption. I am a Disabled Veteran in the state of Oklahoma and due to the degree of disability, I have tax exemption. I had been looking into going here for a couple of days and found the military tickets but nothing about exemption. When I called, I ended up getting someone at Frontier City, instead (weird, since I called the listed number for Hurricane Harbor but whatever). I figured the parks were owned by the same company so this person might be able to answer the questions about how to get tax-exempt, military pricing. In a nutshell, they told me to show up at the ticket counter, let them know I tried to do it online, and they would be able to give me the military price with exemption. However, when I showed up, I was informed that the only way I could get tax exemption was to pay full price (twice what the online, military rate was). This angered me since it was counter to what I had been told and (admittedly, I am not 100% sure about this part) I believe that might be against Oklahoma law. To the best of my recollection, I am entitled to any discounts I would normally qualify for AND my tax exemption. After being told this, I gave up and started looking for the military rate on my phone and never found it. I had previously looking at it on my home PC and it was pretty easy but in the moment, with my family waiting on me to do this so we could start our fun-filled day, I gave up and paid the regular online price (still WAY better than buying them at the window even WITH taxes included). Other than the initial issue, it was mostly a fun day. There were a couple slides that my kids told me were "gross" and from what I could see, really didn't work that well as some people had to basically crawl out of them and the food lines moved ridiculously slow. However, on a very good note, all of the lifeguards were ALWAYS scanning and looking for issues. There was one incident where high school kids were rough housing on the rope obstacles and even after bringing attention to it, the life guards didn't seem to care and basically ignored me (and them) after I initially brought it up. My concern was for the smaller kids in near proximity and the fact that they were slowing the line down. The lifeguard acknowledged me, initially and looked at what I was pointing at and then completely ignored them AND ME. All of the rest of the lifeguards interactions were very pleasant, though, and they seemed to be doing a fantastic job, as a whole. If not for the tax-exemption issue and the one bad lifeguard interaction, I would have given this at least a 4/5.

"No more weekends there"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5

We went on the Saturday of Father's day weekend. I had planned on us getting there when it opened, but hubby made that impossible. We ended up getting there around 1pm. It was a hassle to get a $20 locker and apparently they don't give a discount on lockers to pass holders anymore. They do not take cash at the park, so you must prepay, have a card, or load a card there. Parking is $30 & up, but we got it included with our passes. We went on the big kahuna once. We walked the lazy river a few times. We did the wave pool. We went to ride the Bermuda Triangle slides and there was no life guard at the bottom for a while. This allowed teenagers to be rude and think that it was perfectly fine for them to keep the tubes and go over and over again. They acted as if they brought these tubes with them and nobody else wanted to or deserved to go on the slides. We went and did a different waterslide, and then went back. They finally got a life guard over there and stopped the multiple re-rides of the teens. We left by 5pm.

"Too Expensive...Not Worth It"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed June 24, 2024
VERY expensive! First, with very little access to park anywhere near the facility it is $30 just to park your car. Ridiculous and that is just the start. $30 admission per person and it includes nothing, meaning on some of the slides/rides you pay for the innertube to use for the ride! Not allowed to bring food or drink into the park, so at the mercy of their concession stand prices. Example: Picture shows hamburger with lettuce, tomato and fixings. Reality? Bun, hamburger meat, slice of cheese (with fries) $20. Get a drink another $6! Totally ridiculous and not worth it unless you have no concept of "value for your money". Skip it and and go to a city park pool or State Lake park.

"Don't waste your money on a membership, because they will charge you an admission fee anyways!"

DOUBLE DIPPING! My son has had a membership for years that I pay for each month. He went to the park over the weekend and they told him that he would have to pay an admission fee if he wanted to go in. They told him that I cancelled his membership. I contacted customer service to tell them that we want a refund for the money that he shouldn't have been charged. They said his membership isn't active and that we'll have to make the hour drive to Frontier City to "activate" his membership again before being able to use the benefits that we pay a monthly fee to have.

"Ok water park, but not great"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed August 02, 2023
This park had some pretty good slides, but as with many busy water parks, staff was inefficient and at times seemed like they intentionally took their time to load attractions making everyone wait for much longer than they needed to. One of the multi person slides only had a few floats on rotation making everyone at the top wait for a tube to be sent up even after the slide was all clear. We waited over an hour to ride that one ride. Rapids tube ride never opened due to staffing shortage. Alright water park, but not great.
