Description

from Ripley's Believe It or Not! St. Augustine
Ripley's St. Augustine is the first & Oldest Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium!

Although Robert Ripley was a frequent visitor to St. Augustine and stayed in the building often, he did not create the museum. He died in 1949 and a year after his death, the Castle Warden was purchased to be the ideal, uniquely glamorous building to house his collections.

Collections that include real shrunken human heads, rosaries made of human bone, and a drum kit featuring two human skulls fused together and covered with human skin. Those and 800 other unique exhibits, artifacts, artwork and so much more await you and your family inside the museum right here in St. Augustine!

NOTE: In order to board the Ghost Train you must present your voucher and Photo ID at the Ripley’s Ghost Parlor at least 15 minutes prior to your tour departure time. Be sure to bring along a digital camera and any other recording gear you wish.

Our family really enjoyed our trip to Ripley's. There are a lot of things to see and experience. Our young twins loved the hands-on experiences and didn't want to leave. Yes...visit, enjoy the adventure, and see/learn something new and exciting!

Outside was beautiful at Christmas time. Inside was disappointing and huge waste of money for price of admission. Maybe for kids it might be interesting but as an adult a waste of time and money. Went there as a kid and returned 50 years later. Higher price and nothing new.

"Ghost Tour"

Signed up and went on the tour. The tour office gives you meters to use and while you drive the main streets and turns are all around high power electric lines. The meters are always going off while the guide tells you the dead are buried under the strees and the meter moving is from ghost (not true). One house is located at a 4 way junction of high power electric lines. You cannot tell whether a ghost is there or it is the power lines. Inside the ghost house there are so many electric lines in the house that the meter was always peaking around the large mirror. To top off the evening, we were at the cemetery and the guide lead us to the rest room and then with them knowing where we was at waited an extra (moment) and then drove off and left us. Good thing was we got our money back. This and any ghost tour here is not worth your money. Save your money, buy you on meters and walk and do you own ghost tour. This is a true.

Housed in a home built in 1887 by william warden as a winter residence for his wife and 14 (yeah, 14, God bless his poor wife) children. Purchased by Rawlings (the Yearling author) and then purchased by Ripley to house his collection of the "unusual". Some interesting artifacts.

"Fun with kids "

We had a blast here with our kids ages 7 and 9. There are fun exhibits and hands on things to do. Neither kid said they were bored so that’s a success in my eyes. It took us about 2 hours to get through the whole museum. We also did the red train ticket combo that takes you through the lights at night. The train ride was fun. Mary was our driver and she played great party songs. The lights themselves were not impressive to me, but the kids had fun using the magic glasses they gave us when we boarded.

This was my first time in a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum. It wasn't what I expected for the price I paid and I would not visit one again. It was interesting but not worth the money in my opinion,.
