"Wait At Least Two Months For A Refund!!!"

I booked tickets for Alcatraz, but I had to cancel due to Covid 19. After waiting almost two months for Hornblower to refund my payment, I eventually raised a dispute through my credit card company. The credit card company has now refunded the money to my account. My comments are very similar to other reviews, absolutely no customer service! I understand that companies are having difficulties due to Covid 19, with staffing levels and cash flow etc. But even under these circumstances, I don't think it should take in excess of two months to refund my payment. When I booked the tickets, they took an immediate automated payment! If you want to visit Alcatraz, you have to use Hornblower, because they are the company that operate the ferries. But I would be careful before you part with your money. If you can, book as late as possible!

Shocking experience with Hornblower. Had to cancel and requested a refund seven weeks ago!!! I have emailed them on numerous occasions with very little response. Very very angry and extremely disappointed. I am planning doing Alcatraz next year but will definitely NOT be booked through Hornblower. Their customer service is zero.

We purchased tickets to Alcatraz however, the virus put a stop to our plans. Hornblower sent an email saying they would provide a refund within 14 business days on the 26th march. It is now 50 days later and we still have not received a refund. I have tried to contact Hornblower and Alcatraz cruises via email (at least a dozen times) but no response. They have not even acknowledge my response. We are from Australia and are not familiar with who regulates the industry however, this seems to be our only option. You can certainly tell by their behaviour that customer service is not important.

We had tickets booked for our trip in April but obviously we couldn’t go. Initially the communication with this company was superb, we were sent a cancellation email and should receive the money back within 15 business days. This was on the 14th of March, 37 business days ago. I have emailed after the 15 business days to see if everything was still on track and I was in the queue to get my refund but please be patient as it is a very hectic time...fair enough. Emailed again a few weeks after, no reply. I just managed to have a chat conversation and basically they have told me that they’re busy and they cannot give me a timescale or a guarantee to get my money back. I’ve had a lot of patience but this doesn’t sound right?

Due to have a cruise to Alcatraz but because of COVID-19 have had to cancel. I cancelled on 23/03/20, I chased up on 21/04/20 and as of today (02/05/20) I still have NO refund and have had NO communication from this company. I understand we are in uncertain times, but withholding peoples money with no communication is shocking behaviour. PLEASE CAN YOU RESPOND TO MY EMAILS AND PAY MY REFUND.

How long is the cruise?
The cruise is approximately 2 hours long.

Where does the cruise depart from?
The cruise departs from SF - Pier 3, on the Embarcadero at Washington St.

What time should I arrive for the cruise?
It is recommended that guests arrive at least 15 minutes prior to boarding to ensure a smooth cruising experience.

Is parking available at the pier?
Yes, however, it is on a first come, first served basis. Parking is $10 per car at the pier. 

Is smoking allowed on board?
Smoking is allowed on the outside decks only. Please dispose of all refuse in proper receptacles. Do not throw anything into the water. Please follow all crew instructions regarding smoking. For your safety, smoking may not be allowed during your particular cruise at the discretion of the crew.

Is there a dress code for the cruise?
Yes. We recommend California casual attire, such as khaki pants and collared shirts. We request no shorts, tank tops, flip flops, or gym shoes.

Am I preassigned a seat?
As you board, our captain and marine crew will direct you to your deck. From there the host/hostess will show your party to your assigned table(s). Decks are never guaranteed to non-private groups. Seats are assigned based on needs and capacity for each cruise.

Will I get my own table?
On the majority of cruises, private tables are assigned to the individual parties. However, on some cruises with cruise-style seating, you may be asked to share a table with other parties. 

Are vegetarian meals available? If I have a dietary restriction or food allergy, can I be accommodated?
Yes, for lunch and brunch cruises, vegetarian meals are available and can be arranged at the time of booking. If you have food allergies or other dietary restrictions, please make this note in the “special needs” box at the time of booking. We can also accommodate most other special dietary needs with advance notice.

Are life preservers on board? 
Yes, the vessel is 100% Coast Guard certified with life preservers and all required lifesaving equipment, including child life vests.

Is the ship handicap accessible?
Hornblower does have accessible yachts in the fleet. However, not all yachts and decks are accessible. Should you require an accessible vessel, please make this request in your reservation and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What happens if it rains?
Cruises embark rain or shine. Should it call for rain in the forecast, we recommend bringing an umbrella and light jacket. In the case of severe weather conditions or upon the direction of the U.S. Coast Guard, we will remain dockside but provide the full dining service.

Are there age restrictions for the cruise?
No. Children under the age of 4 are complimentary and must remain under adult supervision at all times throughout the duration of the cruise.
