Not only that, but the tour also includes stopping by the famous Salt Lick Restaurant, one of the most famous BBQ pits in the state, where you can savor fall-off-the-bone brisket, sausage, turkey, and out-of-this-world sides. See the Texas Hill Country with Austin Detours. This road trip takes you out of Austin and into the beloved Hill Country for amazing food and wine.

Texas has long been famous for its amazing BBQ and has quickly become a top destination for wine lovers as well. Texas Hill Country is the third largest wine-growing region in the United States, covering more than 9 million acres.

The first stop will be Salt Lick, one of the most famous BBQ pits in the Lone Star State, where guests can savor fall-off-the-bone brisket, sausage, turkey, and out-of-this-world sides. The tour will then wind through the hills, stopping at two different award-winning Texas wineries along the way. This is the quintessential Hill Country tour.

Please Note:
The price does not include any alcohol, tastings, or food. The guest is provided with a knowledgeable guide and transportation in a Mercedes Sprinter van. Tastings cost $18-$20, and it is recommended to budget $35 per person for BBQ at Salt Lick.

Guests are welcome to BYO onboard if they wish to bring something of their own to Salt Lick. Please avoid bringing glass containers.

Yes, transportation is provided by private vehicles. 


Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Yes, and transportation is wheelchair accessible. If needed, we permit guests to bring a wheelchair or portable scooter with them to fold and place in the rear of the van during the tour. The vans are not equipped with a lift or ramp; there is a 12-inch step up into the vehicle.


Is parking available? 

Parking is available in the Austin Convention Center Garage which is connected to the Austin Visitor Center. Enter the garage on E 5th St between Red River and Sabine.


Is food and drinks provided on the tour? 

Drinks and food are at your own expense. Expect the tastings to cost between $18-$20. Your tour ends with a return to Austin in the mid-afternoon. 


How long is the tour?

The tour is 4 hours long. 


What’s included in my ticket/experience?

After making your own way to the Austin Visitors Center to meet your shuttle, travel to Texas Hill Country. Enjoy time at each stop, trying some authentic Texas barbecue and wine tasting without worrying about your transportation.
