9/11 Memorial Events – Anniversary Commemoration

Throughout the ceremony, there will be six solemn moments of silence, symbolizing the impactful happenings of that fateful day such as the harrowing strikes and falls of the World Trade Center towers, the devastating crash of Flight 93, and the horrific attack on the Pentagon.

The 9/11 Family Members are free of Museum admission.

As a special tribute, the Museum will extend its doors exclusively to family members throughout the entire day. There will be events and activities for the public to participate in.

Anniversary Digital Learning Experience: Experience a transformative learning journey as students and teachers from across the globe come together to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of 9 11 Memorial Events.

Plus, there will be a film showing that offers an emotional and intimate look into the lives forever changed by this tragic event.

2024 Speakers

  • Jules and Gédéon Naudet – the documentary filmmakers who captured the only footage of the hijacked Flight 11 striking the Twin Towers and the only footage of the inside the Twin Towers.
  • Richard Thornton – the NY Waterway Captain who helped in the largest waterborne evacuation in American history, which transported 300,000 – 500,000 people to safety.
  • Elizabeth Cascio – a dedicated member of the FDNY and served as a first responder for 30 years. She responded to both the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing and the 9/11.
  • Joe Quinn  – was a senior at the United States Military Academy at West Point when his brother, James Francis Quinn, an employee at Cantor Fitzgerald, was killed when the hijacked Flight 11 struck the North Tower on 9/11.

Tribute in Lights: As the sun sets on September 11, the night sky comes alive with twin beams of light piercing through the sky, symbolizing resilience, unity, and remembrance. The installation pays homage to the Twin Towers by replicating their distinctive shape.

The Never Forget Fund: The Never Forget Fund plays a role in supporting educational 9/11 Memorial Events NYC programs and initiatives, as well as contributing to the preservation and upkeep of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

About 9/11 Memorial & Museum

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum stands as a reminder of our unwavering spirit and the importance of remembrance. Located in the heart of New York City, it pays tribute to the 2,983 innocent victims, offering a place of solace, reflection, and tribute for people from around the globe.

The Museum

Exhibitions: The exhibitions combine artifacts, immersive images, personal narratives, and interactive displays and technology that lets you feel the impact and aftermath of the attacks. Plus, it gives you a glimpse of the Twin Towers and its innovative feat of construction, including its usage of the slurry wall method.

The Collection: The Collection consists of material evidence, historical records, and first-person testimony from the 1993 attacks to 2011. It houses 74,000 artifacts that document the experiences of victims, survivors, responders, plus rescue and recovery workers.

The Memorial

9/11 Memorial Glade: The 9/11 Memorial Glade is a symbolic and tranquil space that pays tribute to the ongoing sacrifices of rescue, and relief workers, as well as the survivors and their families.

The Memorial Pools: The Memorial’s Twin Reflecting Pools occupy the footprints of the former Twin Towers. They serve as a tribute, remembering all the fallen due to the unfortunate 9/11 attacks.
