"Iconic NYC experience with dull skates"

I skated here with my 20 yo son recently and had a mostly great experience. It was one we will always remember. We got there early on a Monday morning so there was no line at all. The cost was a bit high ($84 for the 2 of us), but we decided to do it anyway. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful. A BIG issue was the skates. I take a 10.5 shoe size, and whole sizes were only available. The 10's were way big, (and extremely dull) so I switched to 9's, too tight (and extremely dull!) I returned those also and asked for another pair of 10's that were sharp. These seemed like the right size and a little sharper. BUT as I skated they proved to be EXTREMELY painful (like a vice on my feet). I could only skate for about 15 mins as the pain became way too much. I'm 66 yo and have skated frequently my entire life and consider myself to be a good judge of skate sharpness. I watched most of the patrons struggling to stay upright which wouldn't be the case if the skates were sharp. I guess I could deal with the poor fit (I still have a bad healing blister 10 days later), but rental skates with 0 sharp edge (rounded over) shouldn't happen! If the skates were sharp I'd probably go for 5 stars!

The kids enjoyed this activity. It is an iconic activity to do and it is nice that you can see it from Under 30 Rock. Kids said the staff were less than friendly, bordering on rude. Otherwise m, they had fun and got some good photos and videos.

Hidden costs! No Ice Skating included- complete waste of money! We booked the Chalets “apres skate” the booking ref reads “we will see you on the ice” unfortunately Ice skating is not included, this is not clear upon booking. It cost us almost $100 each (4 adults, 2kids) to book the chalet. On arrival there is a minimum spend of $25 per person when in the chalet, plus tax, plus 20% service charge! Complimentary trip to top of the rock is included for 4 of the 6 who booked. The chalets are positioned with a hedge in front so only the tallest of guests can see the ice without straining their neck! We had to argue with the staff to get to the top of the rock. All in it cost me $220 for 2 hot chocolate and my daughter’s trip to top of the rock (only 4 tickets for 6 people, I didn’t get to go)

I would save your money and skate somewhere else. When we first got there they were going to take a picture and instead of asking us if we wanted one the girl just pointed and said “Go” like we were dogs. They gave my daughter two right foot skates, we went to return them and they once again gave us two right feet. They didn’t apologize. Extremely rude employees. For $380 you would expect at least decent customer service. So go in with extremely low expectations because you won’t be disappointed that way!
