"3 star experience, really expected more/better from Planet Hollywood"

My stay here borders between 3 and 4 stars. Unlike my other stays in Vegas where I've usually been asked if I'd prefer a high or low floor, close to or far from the elevators, or even offered an upgrade for a strip view, the guy working the check-in desk just took my ID and credit card and gave me a room key. I was given a room on the backside of the hotel on the 6th floor, which is the same floor as the pool. Unlike most other guest floors one doesn't need a key card to access the floor I was placed on (so a bit less secure) and my view looked out over a roof, plumbing and HVAC equipment. The room was quite large, with 2 double beds and so much space between them that you could've almost inserted another bed there. Decor was a bit odd and disjointed; The bathroom had a very deep soak tub in the same area as the sink, with the toilet and shower in separate spaces off to the side and the bathroom looked more classy and traditional. In the actual room, some of the art was more simple, while the doors to the free-standing wardrobe were covered in modern art, akin to the decor at the SLS when it was located where the Sahara now sits. There was a reading/dining table with 2 chairs, but no lights anywhere nearby so one could see and in fact the room overall was quite dark with just a desk light and a table lamp between the beds. There was a fridge and a safe, but no coffee maker (which seems typical in Vegas) and the 2 Starbucks locations downstairs often had very long lines and prices were high ($21 for a simple coffee Americano and a breakfast sandwich). Overall everything in the room was in good condition, but there were some misses - doorstops missing from the walls, rust and damage to door hardware, etc. The bed was comfortable but the mattress and duvet weren't nearly as plush as those at the MGM grand. Towels weren't very soft and there was no "do not disturb" sign, causing housekeeping to knock a few times. When I asked for a sign to hang on the door, they said they had none. Overall the room was fairly plain, which was surprising for Planet Hollywood. The amenities I had several months ago at Treasure Island were much nicer, with a better view of the actual Strip to boot. In addition to the price of the room, I was charged $62+ per night here for a resort fee which is excessive. When I first arrived, I heard people complaining about the elevators and indeed, 1/2 of them in the bank closest to my room weren't working during my stay and the wait times were excessively long at times. Planet Hollywood (originally the Aladdin - and though the transition to PH happened about 20 years ago, there are still throwbacks to the old Arabian decor and theme here and there) offers plenty of bars and restaurants, and the Miracle Mile shops offered lots of stores and even more F&B options. This hotel/casino is centrally located on the Vegas strip, with a monorail station located relatively nearby at the Paris/Horseshoe station. For a place to sleep while in town for a convention, Planet Hollywood and the room I was given were adequate. Had I come here for romantic getaway, the room I was given would've been a non-starter.

"Do not stay here if you enjoy returning to a clean tidy room without making a daily complaint call!"

Great location. Nice amenities, but failed greatly on the promised daily housekeeping. Three separate times I had to call when I returned to my room and it hadn’t been serviced. I was given the excuse that they were short staffed. Just as I can’t arrive and say that I am a little short on funds and can’t pay the amount we agreed to, it is totally not acceptable to say we are short staffed so we’re not going to give you the service you paid for. It really messes up the relaxing vacation experience.

"Single-ply toilet paper hotel"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5

This is a 1-ply toilet paper hotel! For those who care, now you know! I was not happy about the acrid ash smoke taste of water that came out of the hot water faucet in the bathroom when brushing my teeth. Nor was I thrilled about the occasional whiff of cigarette smoke or weed smell that would randomly seep out of the walls like Casper the ghost. The hotel rooms are big and have such great potential to be aesthetically furnished, but whoever did the interior design needs to be sacked, with the “ultra-hip” king room having completely mismatched decor, bizarre lighting placement and randomly truncated prints across parts of the walls. More “ultra confused” than “ultra hip”. We peaked into the larger suites being cleaned and saw similar questionable furniture and decor that gave uninspired on-a-budget vibes as opposed to elevated minimalism. Did not scream glamorous or hip which one would expect for a Vegas stay. With all that said, we did appreciate the location of the hotel on the strip, and the sheer convenience of not having to go anywhere else for entertainment on a rainy day, since planet Hollywood has its own massive shopping mall, performance theaters and solid restaurant options, including a couple 24-hour places. Also, the view of the Bellagio fountains from the fountain view rooms probably beats any Wynn view any day. The on-site car rental is also a huge convenience for day-trippers. Alas, I’ll probably consider a different hotel if I return to Vegas. Tip: Go to the Walgreens on the corner and buy all your drinking water there.
