Description

A visit to Cajun Pride Swamp Tours brings you into the heart of Louisiana’s wetlands, where guided swamp boats glide through quiet bayous surrounded by moss-draped cypress trees. The tour offers a unique look at early Louisiana exploration and provides insight into the wildlife, culture, and natural environment that shaped life in the region. Knowledgeable guides share stories of the land and point out native species such as alligators, egrets, and turtles along the way.

After the swamp experience, the journey continues to your choice of Oak Alley Plantation or St. Joseph Plantation, both celebrated for their historical significance and authentic representation of plantation life. At Oak Alley Plantation, a National Historic Landmark, guests walk beneath the famed Allée of 28 live oak trees and explore exhibits highlighting the plantation’s era as a working sugarcane operation. Interpreters help bring the site’s layered history to life. Please note that photography is not permitted inside the mansion.

Guests choosing St. Joseph Plantation will find one of the few fully intact sugar plantations remaining in the River Parishes. The Manor Home and numerous original outbuildings—including slave cabins, a detached kitchen, blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, and chicken coop—offer a broad and unfiltered timeline of the property’s history. The plantation grounds are also recognizable from major films and series such as The Skeleton Key, 12 Years a Slave, Mudbound, Underground, Roots, and Queen Sugar.

Combination tours operate once per day, making this a well-paced outing that blends nature, culture, and history. The result is a full-day experience that provides travelers with a deeper understanding of Louisiana’s landscapes and the people who shaped them.

Cajun Pride Swamp Tours is a privately owned wildlife refuge a short drive from New Orleans. The pontoon driver/guide was knowledgeable and humorous. He even persuaded my wife to hold a live alligator. Lots of wildlife to see and many gators close up. This was a great adventure that would be a fantastic place to take the whole family.

We had an amazing field trip to Cajun Pride Swamp Tours! Captain Tom was fantastic—so engaging, knowledgeable, and great with kids. Our students loved seeing wildlife up close in their natural habitat. He mentioned that on a swamp tour we might see interactions between alligators, pigs, and other wildlife . Our field trip was the perfect mix of fun and learning. Highly recommend!

"Terrible experience: animals lured on the edge of the bayou as gator bait: Shameful"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed March 23, 2026
We were very upset to see that animals like raccoons and wild hog are fed along the edge of the bayou, baited near the large gators. Our boat captain went on and on how people get upset when alligators kill animals in front of the group and how he asks people to raise their hands if they want the boat to drive off when an alligator is killing an animal in front of them or would like to watch. It is a disgusting way to make this a show while these poor animals are baited close to the gators. Shame on you for doing this. I have been on swamp tour all over Louisiana and no one does this. Do yourselves a favor and choose a company who cares about animals.
