Description

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne. It is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his head-strong youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Prepare for a mind-blowing race through time, spectacular spells, and an epic battle, all brought to life with the most astonishing theatrical magic ever seen on a Broadway stage. "You’ll be wondering 'how'd they do that?' for days to come." (People Magazine).

Experience the wizarding world like never before from the moment you arrive. The entire theatre has been transformed, with hidden surprises to discover around every corner. "It's a marvel of imagination, as magical as any spell or potion." (The New York Times).

This show is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, including intermission. Suitable for ages 8 and up. Children under the age of 5 are not permitted in the theatre.

The show was excellent. The acting was fantastic. "Moaning Myrtle" was amazing. The stage, the set, and the special effects were truly magical! The decor throughout the theater was incredible...and even changed according the story. (You will notice this during the intermission) You really felt like you part of the wizarding world! Highly recommend!!! Worth the trip to NY and every spent!

"Expect a Children’s Theater Experience"

The staging and special effects were wonderful. Hands down, those were the only things that redeemed this play. The acting by the three lead characters is best described as “children’s theater” style: extremely over the top, way over-acted, and silly to the point of insulting the audience’s intelligence. The audio was not good and much of the dialogue was incoherent and rushed. Fun for a night out with the family, but don’t expect the usual high standards set by other theater productions in Chicago.

Dont do it. Any other show would be a good choice. Our kids were so bored. Its basicaly 3.5 hours of talking. We all almost fell asleep. My one kid did. Shocking considering the books movies and universal park are all great. But the play is a flop. Weirdly so. We thought about leaving but since we paid so much we stayed and kept hoping something would happen. Nope!

What a show! It was 3 hours long but the time flew. The show can only be called spectacular. Special effects were out of this world and I’m still wondering how things that happened were done. We loved this show and would highly recommend it.

Really enjoyed it! The frozen butterbeer is a must. Employees were very helpful with finding seats and choosing souvenirs. Seating very tight. They need another restroom. People were late getting back to the show after intermission because the line for the women’s restroom literally had a snaking line like a roller coaster line. The first half is slow but essential. The second half is fantastic. The visuals are super cool and I am still trying to figure out one of the visual effects that they had multiple times. The show is long so know that going in. Would probably not go again but I am very glad that I did.
