Description

from Grand Celebration Tour
The Grand Celebration Helicopter Tour is our most in-demand tour from Las Vegas. The route of flight will take you over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, extinct volcanoes, the Colorado River, and the scenic beauty of the Mojave Desert.

As you fly over the West Rim on the Hualapai Reservation, your helicopter will begin a 4,000-foot descent to the canyon floor. Take in the magnificent views of the massive walls and rock formations as you descend to the bottom. As you climb out of the helicopter, you’ll see the rushing Colorado River as it continues to carve the Grand Canyon like it has for over a billion years.

You will have ample time to explore the canyon floor and enjoy a light meal and a glass of celebratory champagne. Lunch is served under a “Ramada," a traditional Hualapai shelter offering shade and a picnic table.

We took the small airplane to the west part of the canyon. The views on my husband’s side of the airplane were awesome. I thought I would see them on the way back, but the pilot did not fly over the dam on the way back. Not sure if this is what he always does, or if he went straight back because it was cold and windy. Going on the Skybridge had been on my bucket list for years. Once there, the views were really amazing. I highly recommend Paillon. They were prompt and very nice. I would also recommend not going at the beginning of March because the weather was cold, rainy and windy.

"Awful. Use any other company."

I assume the flight is fun, if you can get that far. We reserved via phone and were told we could pay over the phone or at check in only to arrive and find they had sold our seats. They had taken our money first, of course. Rather than apologize for the mistake and put us on the next tour, the women at the desk loudly tried to make it my fault, even accusing me of having a bad credit card. They said we could buy our way onto the next tour for an additional $330. Bait and switch. A tortuous hour later, a manager from their office said the desk women should have put us on the next tour. But since it was now too late all she could do was put us on one the next day. Unfortunately we had to leave for home and couldn't make that work. The women at the terminal check-in were shockingly caustic. Like your worst visit to the DMV. Just avoid what happened to us and instead use any other company.

Four of us took the Grand Celebration helicopter tour with Papillon Helicopter Tours out of Boulder City. It was the first time in a helicopter for three of our group. The experience was absolutely amazing. The helicopter was comfortable and clean. Our pilot Alex was the perfect mix of fun and informative. We got to see the Hoover Dam and flew through the Grand Canyon. We landed at the botton of the canyon on the side of a river where they provided champagne and snacks. We cant say enough about our experience and highly recommend this adventure! Thanks Papillon

Since taking a trip by helicopter is fairly expensive, I had done some homework on the topic. Reading lot’s of reviews and looking at the best options. I also verified taking as tour by bus and rental car. But the distance to Grand Canyon from Vegas is a lot. Besides that, my wife cannot take static’s positions so many hours. So no option. Also no option was leaving her behind... Now price comparing is one thing, but if you are talking helicopters, safety is actually the priority. Since there are quite a few options from companies that take this tour, I found out that Papillon is actually the cheapest option, without compromising on the safety part. They can offer the flights relatively cheap because they focus on the mass consumption. Others operators might focus more on an individual basis (call it a VIP treatment) which for sure costs more. However also Papillon has a VIP service, and that is truly amazing! Of course adding some upgrades will also here raise the bill...but how often do you make a tour like this?? So standard I found the Papillon helicopter tour from Boulder City to the west rim of the canyon (helicopters cannot fly to the south rim, only bus tours or cars get there). But because of my wife’s condition (even though Boulder should be about 35 to 45 minutes if I’m correct) I decide to upgrade to Las Vegas airport leaving. And that immediately is considered a VIP treatment. Now we had a 5 min transit time from the Strip hotel by limousine (Lincoln MKT) included. The airport facility was small, but also few people were there. We only had to wait some minutes to be transported to the helicopter. Next to flying to Grand Canyon I wanted to land there as well. Have the 30 minute lunch. That was another upgrade and last but not least I bought front seats for my son and myself which was another 50 USD per seat. Although the Ecostar 130 (used by Papillon for there VIP flights) is far more convenient than the older ones like the Bell, or Astar (from Boulder City you can get any of these helicopters) a front seat is awesome! Probably I could have gotten the front seat without paying, but I did not wanted to take the risk. My original flight got cancelled because of Trump being in town, but after having received the email, I got in contact with customer services and they were able to change for a sunset flight. If not I would have had to cancel the flight all together, but the refund policy would cover it all (all was paid upfront through the Papillon website). The tour was breathtaking! It was my first time in a helicopter. Some mild turbulence, but the whole experience was just amazing! The lunch was simple, but who cares, we had champagne, some apple pieces, and a granola bar together with some cheese and cookies. For me it was more the experience of being on the ground in the canyon. It was a great place. The whole west rim is so beautiful to fly over. I really loved it. Coming back 2 circles over Las Vegas, great for some awesome pics and videos! Because of the fact Trump was leaving Vegas that same night, we did not really get to see Vegas at actual sunset. Just like 15 minutes before that point. However, I’m completely satisfied with what the tour offers. It was about 3.5 hours all together, close to 4 hours. Of which just a littler bit of non-quality time. Papillon has organized this so well, I cannot think of anything bad in this whole concept they offer! Well done!
