"Great location, decent stay with a few quirks"

We booked two rooms for a two-night family trip to DC and chose the Fairfield in Chinatown mainly for the location—and that definitely didn’t disappoint. It’s super convenient for walking to most of the key sights around the National Mall and downtown. As a Marriott Gold member, check-in was smooth and efficient. One of our rooms was ready early, which we appreciated. The welcome gift was just a bottle of water—not much, but at least something. Worth noting: not all rooms have a fridge. Ours didn’t, but when we asked for one, it was delivered promptly, which was great. There’s also a shared microwave near the ice machine, which came in handy. The room itself was spacious enough for a short stay but felt a bit tired—definitely showing signs of wear and tear. Still, it was clean and functional. Valet parking was on the expensive side (as expected in DC), but service was excellent. Every time we needed the car, it was brought out quickly and with no fuss. Breakfast was included and had a good spread, but unfortunately no hot vegan options. That said, there was plant-based milk, toast, bagels, and fresh fruit, which worked for us. All in all, a solid base for exploring the city. The location really is the highlight here. Just manage your expectations when it comes to the room and breakfast if you’re plant-based.

"Zero Flexibility, Zero Empathy — Avoid Fairfield Inn & Suites Washington DC Downtown"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed June 15, 2025 NEW
I booked Fairfield Inn & Suites Washington DC Downtown via Airbnb and, I was jet lagged and due to an honest slip, selected the wrong date. Within minutes I messaged Jason, the designated co-host, outlining the mistake and asking for a simple date change—or at least a partial refund. Here’s what happened next: 1. “Policy” Shield: Jason immediately deflected, citing rigid policy. 2. Airbnb Ping-Pong: He told me to contact Airbnb. I did. Airbnb reached out to him, but Jason flat-out refused to authorize any adjustment. 3. Stranded & Charged: Result? I’m nearly US $200 poorer, utterly jet-lagged, and I never even stepped inside the hotel. After a decade of business travel, I’ve never experienced such tone-deaf, bureaucratic stonewalling. No empathy, no flexibility, not even a token discount on a re-booking—just a brick wall dressed up as “policy.” If you expect any basic decency or customer-centric thinking, steer clear of Fairfield Inn & Suites Washington DC Downtown (and of Jason’s “service”). Plenty of other DC hotels actually value their guests. Unfortunately, this one clearly does not.

"Over priced but great location"
TripAdvisor user rating 3.0 out of 5

It is located right next to the Gallery Place / China Town metro stop on H Street, providing great access to transportation across the city. Confidently located only blocks away from Capitol One Arena and in Chinatown. That’s about the end of the positive parts of this establishment. The hotel is overpriced for a run-down facility. While they look to have installed new carpet in the hallways, the rooms have fake wood laminate flooring that is peeling and causes a trip hazard. The furniture is stained, and there is no hair dryer, refrigerator, or in-room microwave. For $300 a night, you would expect more. Valet on sight is expensive, and the staff needs improvement. The biggest turnoff for me was the constant smell of weed in the hallways. The management said it was legal and they couldn’t do anything about it, but just like a cigar or cigarette smoke, I shouldn’t have to deal with it. Overall, not somewhere I would stay again.
