Description

Dogwood Canyon Nature Park covers a breathtaking 10,000-acre stretch of the Ozark Mountains, located near Lampe, Missouri. This natural sanctuary blends rugged terrain—think towering cliffs, rock bridges, and secluded creek beds—with well-maintained amenities like paved trails and a working gristmill.

Trails wind through the canyon, giving visitors access to six miles of paved paths and nine miles of nature trails—ideal for both casual walks and more immersive hikes. For a slower pace, guests can board open-air trams or jeeps for wildlife tours, where sightings of bison, elk, and longhorn cattle are common.

Outdoor enthusiasts can also cast a line in trout-stocked streams, ride horseback on scenic trails, or explore historic and whimsical structures—a gristmill restored to working order and a custom-built treehouse made by Treehouse Masters. The Conservation Education Center offers interpretive programs, while seasonal activities (like foraging or survival skill hikes) connect visitors with the Ozarks’ natural and cultural heritage.

Managed by the Johnny Morris Foundation, the park has a strong conservation focus, aiming to preserve native wildlife and plant life while providing opportunities for recreation and education.

My family (husband, 18 yr old son, 6 yr old daughter) and our sons 20 yr old friend all attended the park today. It was absolutely beautiful as the dogwood trees are in bloom right now. We did the Tram 2 hour tour that goes through the park and it was wonderful! Our tour guide was Bobby and he was simply delightful and extremely knowledgeable. You make a few stops throughout the 2 hours to stretch your legs and take pictures of the beautiful waterfalls, pools or water, amazing trout, and the bison, long horns, and elk. You make one bathroom stop about 20 min into the trip. Bathrooms are nice. Our group has a wide range of ages and we all enjoyed the tour a lot!

A great place to hike, stroll, take a bike ride through beautiful scenery, enjoy streams and waterfalls for those able to. Since my husband walks with a prosthetic ( above the knee amputation) we chose to take the 2 hour tram ride. Very good decision and I highly recommend this for everyone, as you can travel on to the back pastures where the bison, elk, and longhorns are. Barry, our guide, was a delight. He was fun, kept us entertained with fun facts, very knowledgeable and made sure we got to take plenty of stops for photo ops. We didn’t get to eat at the restaurant but looked good!

Absolutely beautiful park! The day started off a bit chilly but warmed up so nicely. Bring a blanket if it's fall, winter or early spring. We took the tram ride and we were thoroughly entertained by the amazing "Jurassic Joe"! Give yourself plenty of time to explore the area and at least two hours for the tram ride. Buy your tickets online ahead of time or the team might sell out. The experience is well worth your time and something not to be missed!
