"Great tour of the island (Kaua'i)"

With the pilot there were 6 of us in the helicopter. Our pilot, Dave, was excellent - pointed out places of interest, had some good stories but also left some 'quiet time' which we enjoyed.

After much research, we chose Blue Hawaiian Helicopters for our air tour of Kauai. The company's reputation for safety, hiring the best, most highly trained pilots informed our decision. The pilot was knowledgeable and was able to tell great stories about the island and its history. I'd highly recommend using Blue Hawaiian for peace of mind, a feeling of security, and an overall great experience from the time you check-in for the flight until you're departing after returning. Top notch organization.

"Awesome in every way!"

We felt safe from beginning to end with blue Hawaiian helicopters. They had been recommended by someone in Florida who works for their sister company. They are very careful with safety and we felt confident with our pilot Shay. The beauty of Kauai was incredible and we were lucky enough to see multiple whales in the ocean. Because it was so clear we were also able to fly into the green crater which apparently is not always available. Every part of our our tour was spectacular.

"The flight was good but the video was blank and the refund cost more than the refund !"

Went on a blue Hwaiian helicopter tour of Kauai with my wife and daughter which became a sad story. Almost immediately the pilot reported there’d be no music on the video if we intended to buy the video of the trip as the soundtrack had stopped working. That was Ok we still bought it and duly given a USB stick with the video on it. Upon our arrival home in the UK we discovered the USB stick was blank. I e-mailed Blue Hawaiian Helicopters and was ignored for a few weeks before I was told they would send me another usb stick with the video on it. This never arrived ! Having waited several weeks more for the 2nd USB video I e-mailed and explained that I hadn’t received it, I was then told they were unable to find the original recording and that it was completely lost. I was offered a refund and a DVD of Hawaii from the Air which I thought was reasonable, but angry and sad that we had lost those wonderful personal moments which we will never get back. Have travelled from the U.K. its most unlikely we will ever afford to go to Hawaii again. The refund, well I did receive a refund on my credit card to the value of £48:54 but there was a second charge on my credit card of £48:90 so instead of a refund I was actually 46p worse off ! I was told by Blue Hawaiian that was the money exchange rate. I cannot believe this is true ! No video memories and no refund. Charged £48 to send a £48 refund. Wish we had gone with Jack Hartley helicopter tours instead.

"Unique way to see the island"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5

I can see why most people are so thrilled with their Blue Hawaiian Kauai helicopter tour. From what I could see, the island is beautiful and it's a very unique way to see the island. Our pilot, Marty, was absolutely wonderful - very informative, but also made us laugh. I enjoyed the music they played during the flight - it truly enhanced the experience. Unfortunately, I was stuck in a middle seat in the back with limited views. As you can see from the photo I've included, the views out the front are obstructed by window bars and the bodies of those seated in the front row. My husband and I were so looking forward to celebrating our anniversary with this helicopter ride, but we were disappointed with our seats and experience. Ultimately, it wasn't worth the $250+ each. If we ever do this again, we will go with another company that ensures everyone gets a window seat.

Frequently Asked Questions about Blue Hawaiian Kauai Helicopter Tours

Do you make a video of our actual tour? How long is it?
Every flight is captured on a high-quality DVD. Each helicopter is equipped with four cameras; three external and one in the cabin. The video recording begins during the boarding process. On the video, you'll most likely first see yourself as you approach the aircraft for boarding. To orchestrate the most interesting video, the pilot chooses between the forward, side or internal camera as the flight progresses. The cabin camera, for example, usually shows you right after lift-off as it is so much fun to capture our guests’ expressions of amazement. The recording is continuous until landing and includes digital quality music chosen to complement the changing scenery, plus all the pilot's narration. The video is available for purchase right after you return from your flight.

What should we wear?
Our helicopters are temperature-controlled so dress comfortably but wear dark clothing to minimize any window reflections. If your flight includes a landing at higher elevations, bring a sweater in case it's chilly. Hats are not allowed to be worn around the helicopters as they can fly up into the rotors and damage the aircraft. We will be happy to hold any hats for you until you return from your tour.

Do you recommend taking anti-motion sickness medication?
If you are particularly prone to motion sickness, taking a precautionary anti-motion sickness medication is a good idea. However, our flights are very smooth and turns are slow and gentle. This is a professional scenic tour, not a thrill ride. Most people do not experience motion sickness and do not need an anti-motion sickness medication.

Will we be the only ones in the helicopter? How is seating arranged?
Unless you charter the complete helicopter you will be sharing the flight with other guests. We try to seat couples and families side-by-side as much as possible. We cannot guarantee particular seating as it is often dictated by our FAA approved “weight and balance” program. However, visibility from every seat is excellent in both our A-Stars and Eco-Stars, since there are no cabin partitions that would block part of the view as is the case on other types of helicopters.
