Description

from Rainbow Kayak Tours of Wailua River - Kauai
There is a reason Kauai is considered the garden isle. While there are many ways to explore this incredible give of natural beauty, kayaking offers a special opportunity to experience the many facets of this island paradise in one fun adventure.

Paddle the majestic Wailua River, the original home of the first Hawaiians, who paddled 1500 miles from the Marquesas Islands to Kaua`i almost 1500 years ago. Hear the legends and learn about the flora and fauna of Kauai`s most sacred area. After paddling past numerous Heiaus along the cliff lines of the Wailua, you will reach Kamokila village, a replica of an ancient Hawaiian village and traditionally a sacred fishing and farming area. Soon you will come to the North Fork where you will paddle leisurely through the Garden Isle's most beautiful jungle river until you come to the trailhead for Secret Falls. Enjoy a moderate hike through Kauai rainforest to an enchanting waterfall, which descends 120' into a natural pool surrounded by rocks and vegetation. Inclement weather rarely stops this fantastic journey!

Tour times: 7:00 am & 12:30 pm. The 4.5 hour trip includes snacks, lunch and bottled water.

Thank you so much to Annie for making this rainy kayaking afternoon so fun! This is a great experience for teenagers too - our boys (age 15 and 16) both loved it. It rained a fair amount (as expected in winter) and the trail to the waterfall was on the muddy side so I was glad to be wearing sneakers with a good grip (less sliding around) that I didn't mind getting filthy (deep mud!). The water isn't cold. The scenery is spectacular. I enjoyed learning about Kauai plants & animals from Annie too. I have only kayaked a few times before but the river is easy enough for complete beginners as well as people with more experience - you can go as fast or as slow as you like. The lunch was surprisingly delicious and fresh. All in all, a terrific tour, thank you Annie.

4 miles of kayaking and almost 3 miles through a very muddy jungle. Must be in good physical condition and have good balance. Not much climbing but there is some. Must not be afraid to get dirty because its like a mud run. You will be exhausted and sore but it'll be fun I promise!
