I wanted to love this place and I will say it is a beautiful location, but the room smelled terrible and musty, the carpet needs to ripped out asap. Unfortunately there were also roaches in the room, dirt in the sheets, I don’t know if it was bug “dust”? The internet wasn’t working so no tv channels available and no streaming. I called to get help but they said it was down for the whole resort so oh well. Also the resort dining options are not great, but that part doesn’t really bother me since you can literally get food anywhere. I checked out after 1 night of a 6 night vacation and went to another resort even though it was thousands more to book 5days elsewhere. Service was good, the people were kind, but the hotel needs some tlc bad. I’d advise booking elsewhere with equally beautiful beach access for about the same or just a little more money. Would not visit this hotel again.

This a terrific "value" hotel on the island. It is conveniently located near the airport and within EZ access to BOTH ends of the island. We stayed in one of the adjoining cottages and the sound of roosters and chickens every morning could not have been more relaxing to wake up to. The short morning presentation offered by Asst GM "Bart" is an absolute MUST to take in. He answers all of your questions as to how to best navigate the island. Bring your questions. He has the answers. Also highly reccomend the Air Kuhai helicopter tour for both "value" and safety. The sun rises directly out back of this hotel....and the swimming area here is one of the better public ones on the island. Love this island!!

We were just about to leave for Kauai when the tsunami hit and we could not get a hold of anyone at the hotel. They did not answer the phones and they were in the tsunami zone and we were not sure if they evacuated or not. TripAdvisor and the hotel will not give us back our refund. I would never stay here.

This hotel is in an excellent location to explore the entire island. It’s fairly close to the airport but you don’t get any jet noise while there. The town of Kapaa is just minutes away where you can find shops and restaurants. We visited “The plantation” several times. Walmart and Costco are 15 minutes away, near the airport in Lihue. It’s about an hour drive northwest to Hanalei Bay, and about an our southwest to Waimea. The Garden Hilton is perched on a slope above Lydgate beach, a popular spot for locals (especially on weekends) and tourists. There is a large kids playground adjacent to the hotel, as well as two ocean water swimming holes perfect for children and beginner snorkeling. The smaller hole is mostly for moms and preschoolers. The larger hole is for folks of all ages. It can get up to about 8’ deep near the rocks at high tide, but most of the area you can stand up out of the water at any time. Bring a mask so you can enjoy the abundant fish in the large hole. If you prefer fresh water, there are two pools on the hotel grounds. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful, especially Edi!. Curt the bellhop is kinda weird, but harmless. Visit the concierge for tips or to borrow beach equipment such as coolers, chairs, and mats. Our ocean view room was spacious for two people, might be crowded for more. Decor was uninspiring and the carpet well worn, but everything seemed to work fine. Daily coffee was provided in the lobby starting at 6, which is a little late given that most travelers are adjusting to 3-6 hours time difference. Keurig machines and bottled water are in each room.
