Disappointing Experience at Radio City Music Hall Tour – Not Worth $39 I recently took the tour at Radio City Music Hall, and unfortunately, it ended up being the only truly disappointing experience of my entire trip to New York. First, I want to say that I understand this is a working theater. I completely accept that you aren’t guaranteed access to every space, especially if rehearsals or events are happening. Things happen, and flexibility is part of touring an active venue. That said, if you’re paying $39 specifically for a theater tour, you reasonably expect to actually see the theater. In our case, we never entered the auditorium at all. At one point, we were brought to a hallway above the third mezzanine level and allowed to briefly look through a small window toward the stage. But from that angle, you couldn’t really see what the room looked like. There was no real sense of the scale, the design, or the grandeur that makes Radio City iconic. If I’m paying for a theater tour and I can’t actually see the theater, I’m going to feel ripped off. Most of the tour consisted of walking through hallways and looking at framed photos on the walls. We did see the lobby, which is beautiful, but beyond that, it felt like we were mostly just circulating through back corridors. The tour guide, Todd, was charismatic and genuinely enjoyable. I want to emphasize that this is not a criticism of him — he did a great job with what he had. At the end of the tour, however, it felt like it ended abruptly. I assumed the final stop would be the auditorium since we hadn’t seen it yet. When I asked Todd if we had skipped it, he told me that the auditorium is not part of the tour. That was surprising — and honestly frustrating — because we were never clearly informed beforehand that we wouldn’t be entering the main theater space. For $39, walking around hallways and viewing photos simply isn’t worth it. If access to the auditorium isn’t included, that should be made very clear before guests purchase tickets. Otherwise, the experience feels misleading. I hate to say it, but this was the only part of my New York trip where I genuinely felt my money wasn’t well spent. You decide if that’s worth $39.

"Disappointed; not worth the money"

Beware of when you go! If there is any show or activity going on the day you go, it is not worth the price because you will not see anything backstage, will not go onstage, see the hydraulics or anything else really interesting for that matter. We went during Sprint break for the kids and it was very disappointing after really looking forward to it.

Sierra was our tour guide. She was knowledgeable, friendly and kind. The tour is amazing! There was no show that evening, so we got to go on stage and under the stage. We learned about the history of the theater, the history of the Rockettes and about the theater's beautiful art deco decor. We got to meet a Rockette and have our picture taken with her. I can't say enough good things about the tour. It was 70 minutes long and packed full of great info. I highly recommend it.
