"The Highlight of our Vacation"
July 2018
NOC does it right. From the person working in the office checking you in, to the safety instructor to the guide. We did the Lower Pigeon float trip with our kids and it was incredible. We all had so much fun. The swim in the river to cool us off was a perk. We will definitely visit again!

"Amazing rafting experience with Chelsea!"

One of the highlights of our Gatlinburg family vacation! We did the lower Pigeon river rafting as we had 4-7 year olds. 5 adults and 3 kids and we went in one raft. I had heard about 45 degree water but am happy to report this river is much warmer! We were given great instructions, properly outfitted and off we went! Chelsea was our guide and she was above and beyond amazing! Cannot say enough about how wonderful she was. I wish we had the time to go again, because I would have ditched the kids and gone for the upper river...it was that much fun! They have someone stationed to take pictures...which were so reasonably priced! If memory serves me $45 for the whole bunch. We had been offered single pics at other attractions for the same cost. Do this adventure...you will not regret it!

We arrived very early because we weren’t sure how long it would take to get there. Instead of being rude Alex and Nicole talked with us and we had a great time. Alex let my family meet his lovely German Shepard and Nicole kept the jokes coming. When we started our trip down river we had Nicole as our guide. She was friendly and made us feel extremely safe and secure. When my mom made a joke that my dad was too dry, Nicole spun the boat to soak him. You have to ask to go surfing! Trust me they will know what you mean. It’s amazing! Also they unlike other places let you safely get into the water at the end so you can float for awhile. At the end we were given all our photos on a flash drive. I will only go to this place when we come back out!!!

This was our first trip white water rafting and we all had the best time! Neil was our guide and he was honestly the best! We even got to go swimming while our rafting. I did not want the trip to be over. Definitely worth the money and if you prepay in the NOC store in Gatlinburg , you save around 12 a ticket for adults.

The location was easy to get to. The people working are friendly and professional. We were properly instructed in safety procedures and fitted with equipment. Our raft guide Jess was great fun while on the river. It was a slower day so we were on the only boats on the river at the time We really enjoyed our trip down the Pigeon River. The outpost had a great little souvenir store and really clean changing/shower/restrooms. I would happily work with this company again

Frequently Asked Questions about Pigeon River Rafting with NOC

Are all Rafting with NOC trips guided?
Yes, all trips are fully guided.

How far is Rafting with NOC from Gatlinburg?
The Smoky Mountain Outdoors Pigeon River Outpost is located about 45 minutes north of Gatlinburg.

Do I have to know how to swim?
No, every guest is issued a type 5, Coast Guard approved personal floatation device. The "PFD" is designed to give you all of the floatation needed on the river.

Is there a minimum age requirement?
The minimum age/weight for the Upper Pigeon trip is 8 years old or 70 pounds. You have to be at least 3 years old to go on the Lower Pigeon trip.

When are raft trips scheduled?
The Pigeon River is not a free flowing river. About ten miles upstream from our launch area there is a dam that regulates the amount of water flowing down the river. From Memorial Day to Labor Day the flow is consistent and we can schedule accordingly. During the summer months we raft Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

If I am pregnant can I go?
We do not recommend rafting if you are more than two months pregnant.

What do I wear for a rafting trip with Smoky Mountain Outdoors?
Shorts, t-shirt and secure fitting shoes. No flip-flops or bare feet allowed. During the Spring and Fall avoid cotton clothing, it really absorbs water and will make you cold. Wear clothing that will not absorb much water like wool. Good synthetic fabrics are fleece and polypropylene. Do not wear jeans. Also, bring a dry change of clothes and a towel for after the trip

Do you raft in the rain?
We raft rain or shine. Rafting is one of the best rainy day activities because getting wet is part of the fun! We may delay the trip for a few minutes to allow a strong storm to pass.
