When we arrived, the parking lot was nearly full, and the streets were a bit convoluted, but that's okay. The admission price was okay, but I expect things to be a bit pricey everywhere you go these days after the inflationary cycle the whole country went through just a few years ago. Once we were inside, I was duly impressed with what they were able to do with the space they have. The pathways of the zoo, however, were like a maze and I hope they don't get rid of paper maps. I almost got lost more than once trying to find a specific spot I wanted to see. We went to see one of their animal presentations in a small theater and got to see a couple of brightly colored macaws. They made it clear during the show just how intelligent the birds are, and had them fly from one end of the stage to the other, making the birds display just how beautiful they were. I was also impressed with their stingray lagoon and their rescued manatee exhibit. When we wanted lunch, we stopped at their largest dining location, which was the Savannah Oasis. The cup they gave me for my drink was made of aluminum, which caught me off guard and impressed me since a lot of the drinks I get at other zoos tend to be made of paper or plastic. I decided to keep the cup as a souvenir since it was so unique. What impressed me the most in the whole zoo, however, was the presence of a kiddie coaster and a short water ride. This is the one and only zoo I've visited personally that has these attractions. But now let's get to the only two drawbacks I spotted. When we were over by the manatees, there was a screen that would have a slideshow showing info about the individual manatees, but one slide wouldn't be on display for me to read even one whole sentence before it moved on to the next. That annoyed me. Then there was the time when there was supposed to be a manatee "chat" and when we got there there was no actual chat going on. No staff member looked like they were ready to present anything. Maybe that was a mistake on my part and one of the staff members who were there was actually the one charged with giving the chat and I just missed it. Whatever the issue was, it didn't really dampen the rest of the day. We ended up spending the whole day here, and I recommend it for any person or family who likes animals and/or is just looking for something relaxing to do in Tampa.
