The first room that I was in the tub was stopped up so they moved me to a new room. Once I got to the new room I walked on the balcony and there was a large cement wall blocking my view. I went back to the front desk and asked to be moved to an upgraded room for my troubles and the man refused. Fist he said he didn’t even have an upgraded room available and then said I can give you one at a discount. He had the nerve to tell me “You couldn’t see the city from the first room you were in” so basically saying when you book a “city view” room your actually getting a view of the damn parking lot. I ended up in another room where the sink was stopped up for the remainder of my stay. Do not stay at this hotel that really should be called a motel. The only good thing about this place is the location. The worst hotel that I’ve ever stayed at!!!!

The adult pool was not open. So everyone had to gather in the family pool. OMG.. Risque things were happening in the family pool while kids were around. We had an excellent view right over the pool. The room wasn't properly cleaned. A paper coffee cup was filthy. I will recommend to bring sanitizing spray, wipes and your on towels just to be safe. I must say the bay view was beautiful!

1. This place is olllld and needs some serious updating (toilets don’t even work and you have to flush five times just to get water down). The funniest was the brown sludge coming out of our sink and bathtub after they were forced to do a water repair throughout the building that shut the water off for a couple of hours. 2. No amenities like breakfast, room service, or dining in general except Friday-Sunday. I know we are living in the age of covid19, but I can go across the street to the Westin or could go to the Grand Hyatt and get dining included and 7 days a week vs. Friday through Sunday. 3. We have a serious problem sleeping in filth. We discovered on night two that we were sleeping under a blanket with a large dry red stain that could have easily been blood. The funniest part is when I requested new sheets, I came downstairs and noticed that our new sheets were placed on a public desktop that had not been sanitized. Normally I could care less, but in light of COVID 19, would have preferred those new sheets not be on the reception desk, and SURE AS HELL would have preferred not sleeping near or on stained sheets to begin with. 4. Noisy on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It is adjoined by a WTR Grill and pool. This is a hot spot for 20 something millennials. At present, it is operating just on the weekend. With that group and hot spot comes a lot of noise, and also some literal trash-the parking lot was a disaster of filth the Monday following their pool party, with beer bottles everywhere (funniest was one individual decided to place a beer bottle right behind the wheel of my rental car, hoping I would not notice it and would back up over it. Luckily, I noticed it). This place just is not for us. I feel robbed of money. Do yourself a favor: for just a few bucks more stay across the street at the Westin, or treat yourself to the Grand Hyatt just a mile down the road. Will be a better stay. I promise. I have stayed at both before and can guarantee a more enjoyable experience there.

This was the worst stay ever and will not be spending my money here again. It's sad when you think of The Godfrey Hotel my mind thinks of the Boston or Chicago locations and feel the name and service go hand and hand. Well the same can't be said for The Godfrey Tampa. It is a run down hot mess of a hotel where it seems the only people who truly enjoy it are thise who like to party and get high on cannabis all night. I stayed at this property a few years back for a night and maybe that should've been my warning. But once I saw their updated website, the renovations to the pool and restaurant I was excited to give them another try. It was my 24th wedding anniversary so my husband and I booked June 1-4, 2020. Through his job we found a great rate under $100 per night and its not far from home so we took the drive. Upon arrival and check in the clerk at the front desk was very friendly and that is the best part of our stay. She gave us our room key as I had requested a high floor and a sheet of paper and directed us to the elevators. Not advising us of any changes or rules due to covid-19 or the current curfew effecting the city of Tampa during our stay. We were on their highest floor, the 6th and we go to check into our room. Upon opening the door it smelled musty and i could see that the sliding glass door was not closed completely but the a/c was running. So my husband goes over to close the door but it won't budge and all the rubber sealing around it has almost deteriorated to crumbs. Not to mention the cityview they offer is nothing but a parking lot view and nothing else. So we called down to the front desk she advised maintenance would be up. After 30-35 minutes a man from maintenance comes up and upon one glance states you will need to be moved to another room so it can be fixed. So he leaves to advise the front desk of this and gets a new room key for us. He tells us the new room is three doors down on the same floor. We gather our belongings and make our way down this dark musty hallway. As we open the door on our second room it just got worst. This room looked like it wasn't even in the same hotel. Everything was outdated and old looking and that funny smell was all over it. My husband and I said lets just upgrade to an oceanview room and pray for the best. So now we are given a third room now 4 floors lower but with an oceanview. Be advised not one time did any staff offer to help move us or apologize for any of the inconveniences thus far. Now we are into our third room with and oceanview. This room is not as updatrd as the first room, most of the furnishing look ok but could be replaced soon. The foul smell was not in the air thank God. We did however have the neighbors from hell who partied loud and smoke and drank on the balcony until 5 am for our first two nights. The cannabis smell was so strong we couldn't sit on our balcony for long without getting a contact high. Now here is where it just keeps getting worst. As I indicated earlier no advisement of any sort were given to us upon arrival nor was anything posted on their website regarding the following issues: A curfew was in effect on June 1st and all businesses were to close by 5pm and streets cleared by 7 pm. The hotels restaurant and new pool are only opened on the weekends. Housekeeping is on a request basis only. I was charged resort fees each day for services that weren't even available to me at anytime during my stay. Thank God the curfew was lifted on day three of my stay but the inconveniences were just too much. And it always took forever to get someone at the front desk after our first day. I understand that with covid-19 there's a possibility of limited staff but when i actually went downstairs to speak with the clerk she would be walking around in her cellphone just ignoring the front desk phone. Also because of covid-19 the property wasn't at full capacity so to be told I couldnt get a oceanview room on a high floor when there was less than a dozen cars in the parking lot is ridiculous. And then on day 2 a sheet was slipped under the door advising there would be water maintenance issues that morning until 11 am. This place is a nightmare and no mater how good a rate you find it will be like staying at a motel 6. They will never get my business in the future. I even sent a message to the front desk while i was there hoping to avoid doing a yelp review but if they don't care how they treat their guest then this review is more than warranted

I have stayed in my same room over the past 6 years through the change of ownership and through renovations. While some things still need upgrading in the rooms it is the customer service that keeps me coming back. Claudette is the most gracious accommodating hostess I have yet to come across is all my travels. She is consistent in her support and care of your stay. Desk staff work alone per shift with this virus and its not easy for one person to man the helm alone. I met Kyle last year and sorry I missed him because of this virus, and can't wait for his return. Between Claudette and Kyle, the place would not be the same, it would be just another hotel on the water. They are truly a great team. I hope that when they open the restaurant they seriously make some much needed changes for the type and quality of the food and the breakfast buffet. Less is more with emphasis on the quality not quantity. I did not go to the pool or WTR this time due to the fact that they opened more floors and I chose not to be around the crowds. I went there because my trip to Greece was cancelled and since this was to me my 60th birthday celebration and I could not travel, I went to my familiar place where I know I could have my spirit lifted. Thank you Claudette for making my stay nice under my circumstances and yours because you worked alone your shift with staff cuts. AMM your favorite guest lol.
