History
-From Sweet Potatoes to Macadamia Nuts-
The Nutridge House is located inside of the Pu'u ' Ualaka'a Wayside Park, in the heart of Tantalus. In the Hawaiian language, the name of the state park refers to a crop that was once grown here. "Pu'u Ualaka'a" literally means "rolling sweet potato hill." Under King Kamehameha I, Maliki-Tantalus forest was cleared and planted with sweet potato, giving it its name.

In 1921 a man named Ernest Shelton Van Tassel was granted the lease by the Territory of Hawaii to begin planting Australian macadamia nut trees on the 22 acres of land within the Pu'u ' Ualaka'a Wayside Park creating Hawaii Macadamia Nut Ltd., the island's first macadamia nut plantation. At its height, the company had approximately 2,000 macadamia nut trees growing in the Nutridge grove.

This review is way overdue, but my wife and I enjoyed every minute of our time with Reno and everyone at Nutridge. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of our honeymoon and will be remembered for a lifetime. If you want an intimate, social, relaxing and FUN, cultural experience. Go, don't waste time debating, it's worth it! They make you feel welcome like no other place does and everything feels just right. It's beautiful.

"Hawaii love in a nutshell"

Experience Nutridge is everything everyone has been raving about. It was one of the top highlights of my trip. My boyfriend and I were running late but I called their phone line and they said they were going to contact the driver of the bus, and they told me to relax~~ haha that was when I was like, "these people are definitely something special." When we finally got to the bus, Reno was standing there with a big smile already welcoming us. We were then on our way to the location, away from the "concrete jungle" (aka city). Reno made us laugh a lot in the car and told us history about Hawaii and the luau, plus little facts about Hawaii. When we got there, the staff (a small intimate group of about 7-8) welcomed us and gave the cutest introductions. We then started the night with activity after activity. So fun! I was able to wrap my purple yam into a leaf so they could cook it to eat for dinner later. We also got to play some games and talked to the other guests that came (about 40 of us; we visited late Feb). The sunset that we saw from the main area was SO beautiful. The food was so delicious too! I got extremely full. While we were eating the staff put on the best performances and even had the guests go up to learn how to hula at one point. All in all I DEFINITELY recommend this place. The people are SO warm and felt like family by the end of the night. Thank you so much for this incredible experience!

"5 STARS ++++"

How to summarize our evening? You arrive as a group of strangers and you leave feeling like family. I booked the luau for my mom and myself not quite knowing what to expect. I had been to a "big" luau before. Mehhh, it was alright - but, I wanted my mom to have a different experience and boy did we! You will learn language, cooking, culture, history, you will watch beautiful dancing and singing...you will definitely laugh...and you might even dance :). The entire evening was magical - and a torrential downpour in the middle of it didn't dampen it, it only accentuated it. The hours flew by and we were both sad when it was over. When I was looking for a luau, I wondered about the five star reviews myself...the skeptic inside said it was too good to be true. After attending, I can say that the whole group at Experience Nutridge are 5 stars and then some. Thank you guys for an evening my mom and I will never forget!!

We were lucky to be picked up by Cousin Reno because he is really the main host of this Luau. They started it to provide a more authentic Hawaiian experience. They succeeded. The location provides so much enjoyment because the views and the vegetaion are spectacular. I was highly entertained by The lovely dancers, Reno the passionate Hawaiian and comedian. The food was great but secondary to the whole experience. We did many things during our 10 day stay and this was the best hands down.
