Description

from The Carolina Opry
If you only see one show, this is the one! The Carolina Opry has won every major South Carolina tourism award including Most Outstanding Attraction and the prestigious Governor's Cup. Year after year, The Carolina Opry is voted the Best Show by readers of the Myrtle Beach Sun News, a Knight-Ridder newspaper. And it's the only show that has been featured on NBC Nightly News, CNN, TNN, and USA Today, which called it "A Big Hit.” The New York Post called it "A Hot Ticket.”

Entertainer and entrepreneur Calvin Gilmore launched The Carolina Opry on South Carolina's Grand Strand in 1986. His live music variety show features a cast of 36 of the nation's top singers, dancers, comedians and musicians in its own 2200-seat show palace with state-of-the-art sound and lighting and three giant video screens. The show, which is continually updated with new music and comedy, is two hours of high energy entertainment that blends humor and dancing with everything from rock 'n roll, Broadway, and country to classic hits, pop melodies and gospel. Young and old are counted among its fans who are sure to include a performance in their visit to Myrtle Beach.

In November and December, the theater is transformed into a winter wonderland where the magic of the season comes alive in The Carolina Opry Christmas Special a wonderfully dazzling, jolly and sentimental musical celebration of America's best-loved holiday.

"Vibrant Lively Show"
June 2019
The show exceeded expectations. The variety and level of entertainment was outstanding. The cast consists of a wonderfully talented group of singers, dancers and musicians plus a very funny comedian and a world class and very talented group of cloggers. Their synchronized performance was incredible. The outfits, the staging and the choreography was top notch. The two hour show was at a very professional level in very way. We were certainly impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. However, we have to say the volume needs to be toned down. It was at an uncomfortable level at times.

"Loudest concert I have ever been too!"
June 2019
I was really excited to go to this concert. The auditorium was half full. When the music started, the sound was so loud, it actually hurt my ears. I have been to more concerts than I can count. I barely made it to half-time and I had to leave. A couple, with small children, was sitting in front of me and the children started to cry. They also left. I don't understand this. Surely, they had to know that the sound volume was way too much.

I was in total shock from from the first chord. This ensemble is truly worth EVERY DIME and then some! If you love music from the 60's, 70's and 80's you will NOT be disappointed with Time Warp!! Sometimes you forget that these are not the original recording artists. Just GO.

"This should be the number one show in Myrtle Beach!"

I have loads of experience in the entertainment industry over 50 years worth. I have been around the world with the US Navy. I have even seen crazy shows in third world countries. I also know when people lip sync. Most of the shows in Myrtle Beach like the one show at the Alabama Theater are totally lip sync. I had a lady that had been in theater a long time and gave me the Carolina Opry as a real live vocal place. That old lady that told me that advice must have been an angel. The shows at this theater are 100% live music. Also they have music for everyone everything from bluegrass , all the way up even Lawrence Welk type, big band, jazz today's country rock and roll and really good R&B, and they even throw pop into the mix. They have excellent cloggers called thunder and lightning. They also have awesome dancers and very awesome routines. The magician is awesome. Also they throw in some great family humor with a local comedian. Calvin Gilmore is to be commended for sticking to his wholesome family roots. I love the religious aspect and their dedication to Jesus Christ. I also love their dedication to God and Country for their recognition of the Armed Forces. You will not be sorry you came here it was worth every penny. This is probably the best bang for your buck you will get at the beach. All their shows are entertaining from start to finish. I have been to their Christmas show which is the most awesome of the South. And I've also gone to their seasonal show that's in the summer. Both shows are astounding! I love this theater it's the highlight of my vacation every time I come. Keep up the good work Calvin and thank you for sticking to your roots. Everybody needs a little Mayberry in their life. The world has gotten too complicated. It's good to have Simplicity in your life for 2 and 1/2 hours of the show.

We did the Wagsters Pure Magic show. Ages 6 to 50. Great show. Not only were the illusions excellent but the stage presence of both (married couple) was great. The show is projected up on two large screens which aids viewing. But note there is a camera that comes up put of the sound area so it makes the first row behind that (in the middle) a little tougher. Show was just over an hour. Parking was easy.

Absolutely wonderful!!!! We watched the Christmas show. It’s a good mix of song, dance, magic, and comedy. We are seated on Row F towards the middle of the row. It’s just perfect. I wouldn’t want the closer seats because that’s going to be too loud and too bright with the flashing lights. All the cast are excellent!!! Can’t wait to watch their other shows!
