Mount Up, Hang On, Get Wet!

Banana Boat rides create smiles!

We believe this to be absolute scientific fact, though we can’t exactly prove it. Let’s just say that no one at H2O Sports can recall anyone ever frowning while getting drenched on a Banana Boat ride. Is it even legal to have so many laughs? It sure is in Hawai’i!

Youngsters, oldsters and everyone in the middle will have a great time!

There are two basic requirements: the ability to stay seated and hang on. Everyone wears a life vest. The water is shallow.

We did the submarine scooters and it was a blast. The crew was very friendly and organized and very customer-centric. There were a few people who got seasick (although there was only a light chop) and they gave those people a remedy to help. Tea Tree oil maybe? There was one diver per person/scooter the whole time you were on the scooter. All the divers were very respectful and more than happy to assist customers. Even when people were free swimming and snorkeling the boat crew were keeping an eye on people. Provided on board for free: water, chips, wetsuit tops, life jackets, and snorkel gear. In fact they require you to use flippers if you are going to free swim/snorkel, which is also a safety item due to the currents. They take tons of underwater pics and videos and they do not pressure you to buy them. The photographer comes around to show you what he took and then if you want to buy them you just go to the wheel area and pay for them there. If you don’t want them then you deboard and nobody knows the difference. Later in the day they send a link to your email to download your photos/vid. If you want something besides water you are free to bring your own. They have an ice chest to put your drinks in but some people thought those were operator provided and took some. I’d suggest you just keep your drinks with you. My only suggestion to H2O would be to offer every customer a free canned Hawaiian juice when boarding. It would be a nice touch. It’s really good value for your money and an opportunity to see fish and Honu up close.

We were there as a family for a jet ski experience and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff explained the usage and the security stuff very well and were also very helpful and fun. We definitely recommend it if you are interested in jet ski. They also have other types of activities, which can also booked as packages.

We chose this company because of the good reviews and my 20 and 15 year old kids would be first-time parasailing and jet skiing. I wanted to make sure they’d be going to a good place. I made the reservation, the owner was super nice - explained everything, what it was, the price, etc. We drove ourselves to the office and it was chaos in the reception area. A lady greeted us and checked us in but there was tons of tourists all over the place. Then we went out to the boat slip where this boat takes you out to the platform where they do the activities. We waited for about 15 minutes and then the boat guy told my family to get on. Some of the other people who were not going asked this blond lady if they could see everyone doing the activities from the boat slip, and she was kind of rude and said nope, you can’t see anything! They go far away. The truth is if you drive to the beach around the back of the shopping center on Kalanianaole Highway, you have a clear view of all of the activities from the beach area, which is public and has parking. While you can see it with your naked eye, If you have a telephoto lens, you should be able to get some great pics/video. My kids were taken to parasail immediately upon arrival. It was the first time for both and they were able to parasail tandem, which made it more enjoyable for them. One of the crew, Nick, was very kind and patient with them, made them feel comfortable, and made their parasailing experience enjoyable. He also took some really great photos of them. They parasailed for quite awhile and they were dipped twice in the water which they both thoroughly enjoyed. And then they headed back to the platform for the jet ski portion. From the beach, I saw people jet skiing and assumed it was my family. When the transport boat headed back toward the office, I drove to the office to meet them. I saw a family who was on their original transport boat leaving so I figured it was perfect timing. But when I went into the office, my family wasn’t there. So I waited by the video screens where they try to sell you photos/videos. And this is where I have mixed reviews. There was a girl with glasses complaining behind the counter about how tired she was and what she was going to order for dinner and the transport boat driver came in to complain about how they weren’t getting enough tips. It was just really unprofessional. The blond girl was complaining about how they’d be stuck there to at least 6:30. It was like they all hated their jobs. They work in Hawaii, on the ocean, all day...maybe the pay is bad? I don’t know, but they should probably complain when customers aren’t standing right in front of them. I called my husband and he had an issue. He said one of the crew, Shawn, was very rude. He decided to put a giant group of 16 who just arrived on the jet skis before my family, who has now been floating out there for 2 hours. My husband said they were in line before them and Shawn said no, was a total jerk, and made them wait. So Nick to the rescue! He offered to let my family swim with the turtles while they waited. Thank you Nick! My kids LOVED it. When they finally got to jet ski, my kids rode tandem and had a great time. My son was allowed to drive it since he was with an adult. My husband also enjoyed his time. They finally returned 4 hours later to the office. My husband tipped Nick (although I suspect they share tips - boo everyone else). Then they try to sell you videos and pics. So, as a Disney fan where they charge you $20 for one picture at Disney World, the prices didn’t seem outrageous to me. $50 for video of both activities or $80 for videos and pics of both activities. You get to preview them. Most people didn’t buy, but again, it didn’t seem ourageous to me, especially the video price. I think overall, with video, 2 parasail rides, 3 jet ski rides - it was in the neighborhood of almost $400. Again, thought it was a good deal. Thanks to Nick, they got to swim and look for turtles for free. Based on other reviews where parasailing is only a few minutes, my kids really got our money’s worth. It was just the unexpected wait due to Shawn and my husband said they were a hot mess out on the platform. Tip: If you even have the slightest motion-sickness, do not recommend spectating from the platform. It was a windy day and the platform bounced and moved a lot. Drive to the beach with your beach chair and cold drinks, and enjoy the view from solid ground.
