Fun Fact: After several name changes, the Restaurant became Humphreys in 1980, named after screen legend Humphrey Bogart.

At Humphreys, guests can choose to eat before or after each live performance in the Humphreys Concerts by the Bay. The Humphreys’ amphitheater is located between Humphreys Restaurant and Humphreys Half Moon Inn.

Described as “a manmade wonderland of sub-tropical splendor,” both the Humphrey Half Moon Inn and Restaurant on Shelter Island are considered architectural feats. All buildings on the island are limited to a two-story height and are required to follow an island “Tiki” theme. The Harbor Department requires the Polynesian décor.

The fabulous dishes prepared with local ingredients alongside the sweeping marina views have landed Humphreys several awards, such as the Diners’ Choice Award in 2019, and the San Diego Restaurant Association’s Gold Medallion Award for Best Live Music Venue/Restaurant.

Fun Fact: Humphreys was featured in the movie Bring It On. Kirsten Dunst stars in the cult classic about a National Cheerleading Competition.

In addition to fine dining, Humphreys offers nightly concerts with an array of talented musicians. Guests can choose to eat before or after performances. Humphrey’s main dining room is a large multilevel room with 360-degree bay-side views so stunning you may think you stepped into a Fantasy Island Hawaiian vacation.

On top of the fantastic island décor, the eclectic menu with notes of sophistication and deliciousness may surprise you. Humphreys has an extensive wine list as well and has received the Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator for three consecutive years.

Humphreys’ Menu Highlights

Humphreys was fortunate to have renowned chef Nicolas Bour for several years before recently hiring new executive chef Jason Gethin. Gethin has won Best New Restaurant honors from ZAGAT.

He is known not only for using fresh local ingredients for his SoCal recipes but also for adding artistic flair to traditional seafood-focused dishes.

Breakfast

Humphreys has your breakfast covered with classics like the Social Breakfast Burrito, the Crab and Tarter Hash Skillet (poached eggs, crab, mushrooms, peppers and hollandaise sauce), or the Chorizo and Egg Chilaquiles served with avocado cilantro and queso fresco.

If you're in the mood for something sweet try the French Toast, Yogurt Parfait, or Buttermilk Pancakes. For lively breakfast celebrations, add Humphrey’s Mimosa Special or Bloody Mary!

 Lunch

For lunch, try one of Humphreys' classic dishes: the SoCal Cobb Salad with grilled natural chicken, bacon, avocado and gorgonzola, the Tuna Niçoise, or the Lobster Bisque. Favorite Humphrey lunch specials also include the Macadamia Crusted Halibut and Baja Fish Tacos.

There’s also the Crab Cake Club or the California Burrito with marinated skirt steak.

 Dinner

If you’re in the mood for seafood for supper, try the delicious Sauteed Versasso Salmon or the Lobster Risotto. You could also try the Humphreys’ Short Ribs, the Niman Ranch Cheeseburger, or the Pan Seared Maine Scallops served with San Diego flair.

The Makers Mark Marinated Pork Chops, with bacon feta grits and apricot serrano Chile demi-glace is also a crowd-pleaser. Humphrey’s has plenty of vegetarian options, too, like the Wild Mushroom Pasta, the Truffle Mac and Cheese, or the Butternut Farrotto.

Humphreys Concerts by the Bay

Nightlife, entertainment, and dancing, oh my! Humphrey’s has one of the best concert venues in San Diego. Since 1982, the 1,400-seat outdoor theater has presented major musical venues overlooking the beautiful San Diego Bay.

Performances run from April through October, and attractions range from comedic numbers to blues, folk, rock, and jazz music.

Pro Tip: Humphreys does not allow food or beverages into the venue. Umbrellas, cameras and recording devices are also strictly prohibited.

Tickets

All concerts have reserved seats except for the General Admission, standing only ticketed shows. Dinner packages and hotel packages are available for each show with reserved seats.

Dinner Packages

Enjoy dinner packages for $75 plus the price of the concert ticket (offering seats in rows one through seven). Guests can select dinner from Humphreys’ Dinner Package Menu. Be sure to make Reservations at least 24 hours in advance.

Hours of Operation

Humphrey’s Restaurant is open Monday through Sunday.

  • Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Dinner: 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Directions and Parking

Take Interstate 5 (South) to Rosencrans exit. Head west on Rosencrans to Shelter Island Drive (about five miles). Turn left on Shelter Island Drive. Humphreys is on the right. Parking is available in the Humphreys’ lot for $20. Free public parking lots are located nearby on Shelter Island.

Fun Fact: Actor John Stamos is a fan of Humphreys. The celeb best known as Uncle Jesse in Full House frequents the Restaurant and hotel and has filmed numerous movie scenes on the property.
