Chicago 360 Was Calm… Until It Wasn’t (Let’s Talk About TILT)

Chicago is a city that knows how to show off—but seeing it from 94 floors up? That’s a different level entirely.

Between sweeping skyline views, a drink-with-a-view situation, and one experience that will absolutely test your courage (looking at you, TILT), Chicago 360 turns a simple observation deck into something a little more memorable.

A Few Things to Know Before You Go

If you find yourself in Chicago wondering, “Okay but what do we actually do besides eat and stare at the river?”—start here.

Chicago 360 sits at 875 N. Michigan Avenue (yes, that iconic building) on the 94th floor, which already feels mildly intimidating in the best way. After grabbing your tickets at the front desk, there’s a small moment to collect yourself—and, naturally, take a few photos because we are nothing if not ‘doin’ it for the gram’.

Then comes the elevator.

And when I say “elevator,” I mean a blink-and-you-missed-it launch to the top. Your ears pop, your stomach does a tiny flip, and suddenly you’re stepping out into a completely different version of Chicago.

At the top, there’s a wraparound observation deck that gives you uninterrupted, 360-degree views of the city. You can take your time wandering, finding your angle, pretending you’re in a dramatic movie montage where you’ve just had a life realization.

There’s also CloudBar, which—let’s be honest—instantly elevates the whole experience. A drink in hand while looking out over the skyline? That’s not just sightseeing. That’s a main character moment. Perfect for date night, or even just a “we survived the week” kind of celebration.

One thing to know ahead of time: CloudBar is a separately ticketed experience, so access isn’t automatically included with general admission. If you’re planning to sip something while soaking in the view, make sure you book accordingly—it’s worth it if you want to linger a little longer and lean into the vibe.

Views From the Top: Where Chicago Shows Off a Little

I expected a nice view.

What I didn’t expect was that very specific feeling where your stomach drops slightly and your brain just goes…quiet.

The city doesn’t just sit below you—it unfolds. Lake Michigan stretches out like it knows it’s the star of the show. The skyline stands tall and unapologetic. Everything feels bigger—and somehow quieter—at the same time.

You can take your time with it, too. No rushing. Just slow laps around the deck, finding your favorite view, and then immediately changing your mind because every angle somehow tops the last.

Let’s Talk About TILT (Because Yes, I Was Nervous Too)

TILT is the moment everything goes from “this is nice” to “okay wait, what are we doing?”

Before trying it, I watched. People gripping the bar, laughing nervously, leaning out over the edge like they had suddenly agreed to trust modern engineering a little too much.

For context: I’ve been skydiving. I love roller coasters. I like to think I’m not easily shaken.

And yet…this made me nervous.

Not panicy—just that giddy, slightly unhinged kind of nervous where your brain goes, “This feels like a choice we should revisit.”

When it was my turn, I told myself I’d be calm.

I was not calm.

The slow tilt outward is what gets you. It’s gradual enough that your brain fully processes what’s happening. My heart was racing, and I was absolutely questioning my life choices for a brief moment.

But the view?

Completely worth it.

It’s that rare mix of thrill and beauty you don’t forget—the kind you immediately want to talk about after. And maybe even do again.

Important to know before you go: TILT isn’t something you can do whenever you want. Your time is automatically assigned 30 minutes after you enter.

So pace yourself a bit. Don’t linger too long on your first pass around the observation area, or you’ll end up rushing over when your time hits—but also don’t sprint straight there. Give yourself time to adjust to the height first so you actually enjoy it.

If you added CloudBar access, plan that around your TILT time. It’s a much better experience when you’re not watching the clock or cutting it close.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit (So You Don’t Just “Look and Leave”)

What surprised me most wasn’t just the height or even TILT—it’s how easy it is to rush through this if you’re not intentional.

The space is designed for you to move at your own pace, but a lot of people do one quick lap, snap a few photos, and call it a day. That’s fine—but it’s also how you miss the best parts.

Start with a full loop when you first arrive. Don’t stop yet—just take it all in. Then go back around and actually slow down. Look out over different neighborhoods, watch the boats cutting across Lake Michigan, notice how the city shifts depending on where you’re standing.

If you want the best photos, don’t crowd the first window you see. Keep walking. Some of the best angles are on the quieter sides, and you won’t be fighting reflections or other people’s phones in your shot.

Timing matters more than you think. If you can, go closer to sunset—Chicago starts to glow in that golden hour light, and you’ll get both daytime views and the city lighting up as it gets darker.

Also, give yourself more time than you think you need. This isn’t a 15-minute stop unless you want it to be. Plan for at least 45 minutes to an hour so you’re not constantly checking the time or rushing through.

And if you added CloudBar access, actually use it as a pause point—not a quick stop. Sit down, have a drink, and let the view do its thing. It’s the difference between “we saw it” and “we experienced it.”

Final Thoughts: Is Chicago 360 (and TILT) Worth It?

This experience is absolutely worth it.

The views are incredible, yes—but it’s the combination of calm, thrill, and those unexpected “wow” moments that really stick with you.

If you’re going, here’s my advice: don’t rush it. Walk the perimeter. Stop more than once. Let yourself just take it in.

And if you’re on the fence about extras—go ahead and add CloudBar access when you book. Since it’s separately ticketed, it’s easy to miss—but having a drink up there turns the whole experience from “that was cool” into “we should do that again.”

And when you get to TILT?

Just do it.

You’ll laugh, you might scream, and you’ll definitely walk away with a story.
